My wee boy slept through the night from about 3 months. All of a sudden at seven months he is waking up 2 or 3 times a night again. I have tried just settling him but he wants the boob! I would say it is teething but he has already had 5 through with hardly any issues. I would say it's a growth spurt but it has been going for 3 weeks and he is no hungrier during the day.

Any suggestions on what is causing it and what I can do? I need my brain back.

Hi Siananigan, nice to see you posting on here, I love your blog!

Sounds like his sleeping patterns have changed and you need to do a bit of retraining. There are a couple of case studies on The Sleepstore's website which sound like you - don't worry, I've got exactly the same problem with my almost 7 month old (eek! 7 months!) so am in the middle of retraining myself. It's specially hard if you have no control over his routine during the day. Anyway http://www.thesleepstore.co.nz/Baby+sleep+solutions/Case+Studies+Babies+4+to+12+months.html - here's the link to the case studies, hope they're helpful.

Good luck!!! And come chat to us in the June or July 08 threads!

Is he having a good amount of solids each day and gaining weight as he should? If so you might need to do the tough love (controlled crying) thing to retrain him to sleep through the night. It's hard, but I didn't have the guts to do it with my first two and they continued waking once every night right through until 11mos.

Yes he is a little porker and eats more food than a small army of babies plus heaps of boob. not a fat baby just tall and chubby. In the top 95th percentile for both height and weight. I am going to give it another week of waking and if he proves it's not a growth spurt then maybe I will be giving him a little sleep training.... ouch! I am such a softie.

What about offering him a drink of cool boiled water from a bottle without picking him up, then resettling him in his favourite position. If he crys again just keep resettling him, he will go back to sleep and it will get a little better and take less time every night. You know he can go through the night without a feed, he might just be a little thirsty or finds himself awake and wants comfort. You definately don't want to go back to night feeds, it really does your brain in!
