I've been very fortunate with my DD in that she started sleeping through from about 10.30 - 6.30 at the age of about 8 weeks.
However, the last week or so she has started waking up once, sometimes twice a night. Sometimes she can be settled by being tucked in and patted, other times (like last night) I have to feed her. I have been researching the net which seems to suggest about this age this is normal behaviour. Has anyone who has been through this got any advice? When will she return to her sleeping through? I start work in a week, and will need to be up at 6.30 am anyway, so will be a wreck if i also have to get up at 2am and 4 am! ------------- |

YIp my boy did this and he is still doing it at nearly 6months. I feed him straight away when he woke which I wouldn't recommend. If she's been sleeping through then try as much as you can not to feed her back to sleep otherwise she'll get into my son's habit of wanting to eat through the night. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Completely normal, sorry to say, love. They tend to "wake up" again at around 4 or 5 ish months, a sign they are getting more aware of the world around them, and probably sleeping less during the day now?
Personally I think if they are under about 6 or 7 months, I don't think there is anything wrong with feeding them back to sleep - they aren't *really* programmed to sleep through without a night feed till over 6 months or more, most professionals wouldn't reccome4nd a sleep programme (cry it out etc) till over the 6 months stage, so smae thing with feeding, even if they have been slepeing through previously. It is just a growth and develpmental stage! Does suck tho when you are used to your sleep! ------------- The Honest Un PC Parent of 2, usually stuck in the naughty corner! :P |

IMO waking more at night at 3 1/2 to 4mos and then one month later is growth spurting. It lasts about a week and they just need extra in their tummies. It's up to you and your baby to decide whether you will just continue with the feeding or if it is time to introduce a small amount of solids each day. -------------  |

Hi Susie, as Busymum said it may be time to introduce solids? I just went to a solids session & they said a sign of being ready for solids was waking again through the night if they used to sleep through. Try an empty baby spoon & see if she opens her mouth rather than sticks out her tongue & is she interested when you eat? It does sound early but they do say anywhere from 4-6months. I also got told it doesn't matter what their weight is as some tiny babie's are ready for solids early & some heffa's start latter. ------------- 3yr old gorgeous ID twin boys. |

thanks for the replies! I am going to give solids (baby rice) a go next week and see what happens . ..
We have just got back from a weekend away and she slept in a portacot right through from 8.30 pm to 7 am both night 
Other than being in a portacot, the only different thing i didn't do was get her up for a late night feed at 11ish cos i was far too tired myself (naughty mum!). Don't know if this is a coincidence or not but i will leave the dream feed again tonight and see what happens . . . . Is it ok for her to go 10 - 11 hours without a feed? edit to make more sense! ------------- |

Joel sleeps through from about 7pm till normally 7am, never dream feed him and he has done this since 11 weeks. Last week he started waking again around 4 am, so I gave him solids and he is back sleeping through. (Plunket suggested waiting until he started waking again during the night.) -------------

Its definately ok to go that long without a feed during the night as long as she has feed well and regularly during the day. A few lucky people out there have babies that sleep through the night from a couple of months old, it just depends on the baby.
And I am sure she will definately let you know if she is hungry! Good luck! |

| Susiec - let us know how it goes without the dreamfeed again. Im wondering if dreamfeeding Ava is worth it - she only usually drinks 100mls and she has been unsettled during the night since introducing it. |

My DD used to do this once a month for a couple of nights then be back into a routine again.
She also used to wake at 5am sometimes, which I couldnt decide if it was good or bad, lol! Good because she's go straight back to sleep for another 3 hours, but bad cause I didnt want it to become a habit. Luckily she didnt do it for long. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Denny - did no dream feed again last night - she woke at 5.30 but settled again really quickly (in about two mins) when i put the dummy back in and tucked her up. then she slept till 7am.
If she wasn't in our room i doubt i would have heard her wake at 5.30 and she could probably have settled herself. I think it may be worth you trying doing without the dreamfeed for Ava to see if it has a similar effect ------------- |

| Yep I went to Plunket today and they suggested we drop the dreamfeed as well - 1) because it unsettles her (or seems too) and 2) it makes her pee WAY too much! and she ends up with wet clothes (even though we use ultra absorbent nappies). |

Have you tried putting her to bed a little bit later? We put Catriona down about 8 - 8.30 now and it seems to work . . .
Also as DH doesn't get back from work till 6 - 6.30 it means they can have a bit of play time together ------------- |
