Yes... and no. It's dreadful that that man died. As one of the comments said, I'm sure there were countless people out there who would happily have arranged to pay his power. It's very sad, and I really feel for him and his family. To think of the poor man, dying all alone...

At the same time - is it really the company's fault? They didn't set out to kill a man. They didn't even cut his power off; they just put a device on to limit his usage, which he didn't reset as he should have.

I agree that it's society in general's role to ensure that a man in this situation is looked after. Someone should be making sure he has the skills to look after himself on his own. Someone should be watching to make sure he's managing. Someone should be willing to front up if he genuinely can't afford power. Is this the power company's responsibility? Should they give away power to anyone who can't pay, just in case something like this happens? Knowing human nature, I can predict what would happen then

In my mind, that's where my tax should be going - so those structures can be put in place to prevent that kind of thing.

Ok... whew. Sorry. That wasn't meant to be a rant... I don't even really feel rantish... my fingers just kept going!

sad

but hopes...i agree with everything you said. it's not the power companies fault...someone in his family should've been looking after that side of things and making sure everything was being paid....i would if it was my 93yr old father/grandfather
