Well I had my monthly check up with my doctor this morning and I was showing highish levels of glucose in my urine this morning. May just be the sugary tea and milo cearel I had for brekkie but to be on the safe side she's sending me in for the 2 hour GTT test for gestational diabetes.
On the upside at least I get a half day off work!

Good luck with the test Paws!
I'm being tested for Gestational diabetes at my next midwife appointment due to my mum having diabetes so hopefully I haven't got it either. She gave me a bottle of glucose drink that I have to skull an hour before my next appt.

So not fun. I've been for mine and it was so boring sitting for 2 hours. My test came back all clear thank god. But i even hated the 1 hour one as well.

I've had that test four times (three in the last pregnancy and once so far this time). Because I have PCOS they think I will end up with Gestational Diabetes. All clear so far.
Sip the ikky glucose lemonade drink or it might come back up! And take a good book. It's so boring and awful sitting there for two hours trying not to listen to what tests everyone else is in there for. Good luck!

Yeah I agree, dont rush the drink because it is really sickly and can make you feel a bit queasy (sp?) I remember when I did it in hospital last time with Kobe and couldnt move without feeling sick. this time I didnt feel so bad though but unfortunately my results werent so good good old GD again for me :(

At least you ladies didn't have to entertain a bored 3yo for two hours! I did that test while pregnant with Josiah, and had to keep Kiya amused while I waited... never even got to my book!

You brave, brave, brave woman. I had a normal quick blood test with a ten month old along for the ride that was chaos - a bored three year old must have been something else!

man that test sucks! i am not looking foward to it this time either with my nearly 2 year old to entertain. when i went in my last pregnancy the lady who gave me the drink kept telling me i had to drink it in under 5 minutes or the test wouldn't work. so i wound up sucking it down with her checking on me every 2 seconds to make sure i was drinking. i wanted to be sick and burst into tears at the same time!
good luck for your test paws, and don't let the nurse bully you!

I'm glad I'm taking a half day off work to do this and not trying to rush in...I wanted to give myself time to have something to eat afterwards and settle my tummy if I do feel like barfing! I presume I can eat afterwards.
I do have some cross-stitch - winnie the pooh mini ones that I do want to do for bubs room...could take that along.

I requested the GTT test as soon as I was pregnant, as I have a family history of diabetes. Mine came back positive, but nobody did anything or seemed worried, so I didn't get referred to the diabetes clinic until I was about 20 weeks.
Paws - I took a good book, and was told to drink the glucose drink within 10 mins - not an easy feat when you are 6/7 weeks pregnant and feeling sick anyway.
The 2 hour wait does seem a long time - make sure you take along a couple of plain biscuits to eat straight after it's all done - that really helped, although personally I spent the entire day flaked on teh couch and feeling really sick.
Good luck and hope it goes well for you, and you don't have GD ... I'm doing ok, but do have my down days about it.

Whether or not it is just another one of a long list of quirks I am accumulating, but I found the glucose test drink pleasant ! A bit like drinking the cheap brands of lemonade, which to me was great as I was hot, running late, and looking for something to drink. Just read my book for an hour, had the other tests done (bloods) and then waddled off again. Fortunately the results came back fine, although in the mean time I was hit with that lovely ligament problem

the two hour test is a little worse cos the drink is really sweet and syrupy and there is more of it. Plus this time round the stuff was warm so it made it even worse but I did enjoy being able to read in peace.
you can eat straight after the second blood test but only water while you are waiting.
Fingers crossed for a good result cos GD sucks! my poor fingers are sooooo sore.

Well I'm home and survived...feeling sodding tired, a bit like a pin cushion and have just scoffed some apricot chicken and now am looking for second course!
The nurses were really nice which was great. The first sips of the drink were fine but by the end of it I wanted to barf.
After the first hour the nurse told me I could go sleep out in my car if I liked as I look so tired and grot so it was nice to get a bit of a nap and one of the nurses came and woke me when it was time for the last tests.
So I'm just going to finish eating then get changed and amble into work.
Fingers crossed for a clear result!

Fingers crossed for you Paws! I have the referral form for the one hour polycose (the risk of GD with twins is higher, yay for me!) but haven't got around to it yet.
Had two GTT's and a polycose with Maya and they sucked. The first GTT I had to start all over again as I chucked up everywhere. Very attractive. But what did they expect, I had bad morning sickness, and my tummy didn't like that the first thing going into it after 12 hours of starvation was that revolting sweet fizzy stuff.

Yeah I must admit that for a little while I really thought I was going to barf...the idea of having to start all over again put a stop to that thankfully!
