| do babies 'get used' to solids? Alex isn't interested at the mo but someone is telling me I should just be giving him some everyday so he gets used to it. He isn't hungry and his weight is all good. He dipped under the line he was on but PN said he is just evening out and there are no issues. |

Just leave it a couple of weeks Heather. I only started Joel as he was waking through the night again (and had been sleeping through from 11 weeks). Of course my little glutton is eating more than a jar 3 times a day now Try him again later, he doesn't sound ready yet, don't worry what other people say, do whats right for you and Alex -------------

Caden wasnt really that interested in solids until after 6 months and even now I have trouble getting him to eat veges, he screws his face up and makes horrible noises lol. he will eat fruits and baby rice but it did take him a while to get sued to them all.
They say 6 months+ for starting solids, so I wouldnt worry at this point, its still early days  ------------- |

Agreed - no need to rush the solids. We started Josh at about 5 1/2 months, but just a little bit of baby rice once a day.
They don't need solids til around 6 months anyways, so you guys are doing just fine

yeah dont rush.......................i use to give ty a lick of the spoon every day and that was it then at 7mths he was going nuts on it..............give him the spoon to play with and shove in his mouth byhimself..............he gets use to the texture then  ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

My uncle's wife has a kid who never had any solids until she was 14 months   Seriously, she just wasn't interested, she was happy and thriving on breast milk. I didn't even know babies could last that long with no solids. They offered all sorts of food all the time but she just spat everything out. Finally at 14 months she decided to give it a go and there has been no looking back.
So I wouldn't sorry too much about Alex, he's still little and if you keep trying he will eventually decide to give it a go. -------------

As everyone else said, give a week or two and try again. Jack didn't start on solids until about 6mths and then took awhile to move past 1 small meal a day ------------- Lindsey

I started the girls at 4 and a half months and they showed no signs of being ready, but with twins I wanted to just jump in and get them used to it so I wouldn't have to worry about trying something new later when they're teething or starting to roll/crawl. Most probably wouldn't agree with my choice but my family were all telling me the same thing that they would get used to it and it would be easier in the long run and twins I'm all about the easy road
My girls adjusted very quickly and have had no problems with solids dispite not being what most would consider ready. The first couple of tries we got screwed up faces but they quickly learned to love it. Now at 8 months we are doing 3 solid feeds and 4 bottles a day and the girls are eating weetbix and sandwiches as well as other finger foods. They are fantastic eaters and I don't regret my decision in the slightest. Although all babies are different so what works for one may not work for another. -------------

Babies don't actually need any solids until they are 6 months old. When he is ready you will be able to tell. He will start being absolutely fastinated with everything you are eating, he will lose his tongue reflex that pushes anything solid out of his mouth and his bowel motions might get a bit runnier.
People are well meaning with their advice but can be a bit annoying, you know your baby better than anyone so trust your knowledge and your instincts. Best of luck when you do start solids!

They go with growth spurts... I often find they'll accept solids for a week then not be interested at all for a couple of weeks and then at the next growth spurt they're into it for good. -------------  |

Food is fun until they are one! - a good saying to remember.
Dont stress, just keep trying, they'll eat eventually. And it's very normal for them to go off soids once they start teething too, DD did this and didn't really eat again until 8 or 9 months, she was happy with the boob. Then she wanted finger foods, she hated mushed up food! So yeah they're all different. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Just like everyone said, your man will let you know when he is really ready for it!! The boys seemed to really love just fruit at first, and it took a few tries to get them to have it, maybe a spoonful a day, but they are having 3 meals now
