We seem to have a wasp nest in our front garden, right in front of the house where most of the windows are. How do we get rid of them and what do we do about opening windows or not in the meantime??

I think you can ring the council and they will sort someone out to come get rid of it for you

What sort of wasp nest? Whatever you do wait til dusk when they're less active. If it's a paper wasp nest (like an exposed ball) you can just spray it with fly spray, if it's a german or common wasp nest (in a burrow or tree hollow) you kill it by pouring petrol into it.

There looks to be some good info http://www.envbop.govt.nz/Land/Animals/Wasps.asp - here - I haven't read it so if it disagrees with me follow their advice not mine!

we have one in a tree stump, we need to get on a ladder to pour the petrol in though so it hasnt happened yet.

Just reminded me what DH will be attempting this long weekend.

Thanks, they are all going underneath a bush and without using my hands to move the bush, I can't see if there is a nest or a hole - or anything. But there's about a dozen wasps around. We rang the Council but they will only deal with it if it is on their property. They certainly look like German or common wasps though.

Heck, I wouldn't be touching it or going anywhere near it! LOL.

We had a couple of these when we first moved into our place. Didn't dare go anywhere near it! We just called 'a man' to come and take care of it - one of those pest control guys...
