I'm trying to be as prepared as possible and have been stocking up on things I need since I got BFP but it's been awhile since I did this and anyway last time my lochia was heavier than most and lasted longer because the high risk team didn't think to refer me to a haemotologist for my bleeding disorder(mini rant over... I digress).  I have a few packs of maternity pads now and am wondering how many maternity pads I'll need and when I can switch to normal pads.

How long did your lochia last and how long as it super heavy for?

ETA: My haemotologist wants me to stay in hospital for 24+ hours this time so they can be sure that the drugs they give me are helping to make my bleeding normal so I'll use the hospital supplies while I'm there.

mine was about 6 weeks all up for both births. Super heavy was maybe a week ??(memory loss). I had about 3 packs before birth and then got different pads as necessary.

The hospital ones are acutally really good - super long and very thick (like walking around with a brick in your undies ) but the padding is great if you are sore. They were much better when I had Sophie as they had changed them to have the sticky backing so they stayed put. I would suggest taking a couple of packs of their pads home if you can.

I cant remember exactly although I had 2 packs in hospital and another two at home and one of those is still unopened. Then I went through 1/2 a pack of regular flow pads, then used liners for maybe a week?

I think I was into normal pads once I got home which was 10 days. But being a sun-roof delivery I got a decent clean out

Anyway I have 2 packs of 'surfboard' type maternity pads lying around here which I am more than happy to give you.

Everyone seems to be quite different. I had super duper heavy for a few days. Heavy for about a week, then light until 4 weeks. I still used maternity pads until about 3 weeks just because they felt better on my damaged bits. I think I used about 5 packs?? (including hospital ones)

First baby:  Super heavy for first week.  hospital didnt provide any so I was going through a pack or so a day.  Loved the surfboards as I had a very sore toosh.  Went to thinner ones at home and was on to normal ones about week 3.

Second baby:  Hospital provided while I was there.  Went through 2.5 packs of surfboards in the first week.  Then down to libra regular.

Oh and didnt need surfboards as sunroof delivery...but with the granny undies, I may as well have surfboards.  nothing glamourous here.

Super heavy for at least 10 days - 4 of those were in hospital so I could nick theres. I think the first 5 days I had 2 pads in at a time, then 'graduated' to one pad. After that, I went down to the superheavy menstrual pads for a week or so, then gradually down the absorbancies. I was using pantyliners by week 6.

Wow, I didn't realise how bad my bleeding was  thanks guys.  Yes Tishy I'd love to grab your unused packets if you don't want them and then I should have enough to last and can start diverting my cash to stocking up on nappy cream.

I was onto "super" (not maternity) pads at around day 4, and the bleeding lasts up to 6 weeks but lighter and lighter.

With Cooper it lasted about 3 weeks and then AF arrived when he was 9 weeks old *Faint*

I mainly used the Pams Super Pads with wings, they were fantastic, for the heavier days I think I used Libra Goodnights, I don't even think I brought the Maternity ones because they were so freaken expensive.
