Yet another decision to be made in the long haul up to buying all the stuff we need for this wee critter!
Does anyone have any recommendations - some of the non-disposable pads I have seen are beautifully soft and look like they would be fabulously comfortable. But I am worried they will be more trouble than they're worth (not to mention disappear in the wash - they're tiny!) especially since I'm already planning to wash cloth nappies. But if you've got sore nipples and these help would you care? Now we're down to the little things - monitor, breast pump etc - I seem to be as unable to make a decision on these as I was on the big stuff!!!! ANy help much appreciated... lucky only 5 weeks to go... |

I used diposables in the first bit so I didn't get cream on my nice cloth ones, and I was changing them every feed. The moved onto cloth, I got some off a lady in Whakatane (4 pairs for $10) and they have been great. I am not a big leaker though so don't know how they would go if you are a heavy leaker. eta: I have never lost any of my cloth pads in the wash, and we went camping last week and I took them then as well -------------

Personally, I wouldn't stock up on too many breastpads. I only used them for about 2 weeks until my milk supply settled and I didn't need them anymore after that.
I ended up giving my stock away. As for breast pump the amount you spend on this should be proportional to the amount you intend on using it. I spent $500 on mine but used it at least twice a day for 6 months. |

I am using disposables at the mo (3weeks in) as the reusable ones arent quite cutting it but last time I switched to reusable at some stage and was good. It just cant have been so early on.
slight TJ but, I have some lovely soft ones from breatmates...microfleece with PUL backing ( I think) and I have lanilon on them and they dont wash out....any suggestions??? Dishwashing liquid ? |

I would perhaps get a few disposables and then wait and see if you leak a lot, I leaked a lot, always leaking and began to find the cost of disposables adding up but then a friend who had a baby a week after me never really leaked so never used any.
I was told by an LC as well that wool based breast pads can be really good for sore nipples. -------------

I am a big leaker and tried the reusables, wanting to be environmentally friendly. Several problems - some of them stink, there is often a big circle over your boob (visible over your clothes) which I personally hate, they can leak (a lot) .... I now only use disposables - avent and johnsons are good, and I've just started using pigeon - they also seem OK. I've never leaked with disposables. ------------- Mum to two wee boys |

I still leak when i'm feeding (off the other side), and have used a few disposable brands. Personally, i find the johnsons ones (the more budget of the 2 they have) best for me. There are some with sticky backs on them, but in my experience they're a PITA!  some of the disposables can be quite thin, but for me, they tend to fold over and bunch up which is never a good look... -------------

I agree with FionaandFinley about getting a few disposable ones and then waiting and seeing. I only ever leaked once at night when Jack slept longer than expected. I would use disposables when going out for a while just in case but gave up as I never needed them ------------- Lindsey

I am using disposables, and I'm a pretty big leaker (not a label I thought I'd ever want for myself lol), and the cloth ones I tried just didn't cut it. I do have to change mine every second feed during the day, and every feed during the night...or I end up with those oh so sexy wet round patches on my clothes or the bed. I have a lot of milk though, I'm hoping I will be able to use less pads when/if my milk settles a bit more.
I'd perhaps buy a couple of cloth ones and a pack of disposables and see how you go. You may not even need them after your milk settles, or find you prefer one or the other.  ------------- http://www.bump-and-beyond.com/">

| i use the cloth ones if im spending the day at home because for me they generally leak. I use disposables if im going out. I like pigion because they are thin and comfortable and are very absorbant. I have a huge milk supply still at bubs being almost 6months and always have breastpads in. If he goes more than four hours without feeding i must express. As everyones been saying, wait and see how you go. |

I tried most brands with my first, and the best ones I found were definitely the pigeon ones, I didn't even bother trying another brand with the twins. They were the most absorbent.
I have some cloth ones now that I'm not feeding as much and they are good, but def go with disposable at first, save yourself the hassle of washing them!! -------------
