          | Know how to change a tyre?
My uncles girlfriend was here and we were talking, she was about to leave and i said 'yu do realize your tyre is dead flat aye?'

Nope she had no idea, and then she said she doesnt know how to change a tyre, so i got the jack out of her boot and she tries to put it ONTOP of the flat tyre in the wheel arch!! LMAO i was in hysterics of laughter by this stage!
How is that suppose to jack the car up!

Lol so i ended up changing it for her.

So how many of you know how to change a tyre?

          | My dad made sure I knew how to change a tyre before he gave me my first car.  It's come in handy too.  I've had to do a tyre change on the side of the Akl motorway during peak traffic and in a carparking building in the middle of Wgtn during peak hour too - I would have been there for ages, both times, if I had to wait around for roadside rescue to come and do it for me. ETA: Sounds like an amusing visit, did you get any of it on camera?

          | dad is a mechanic so i can change a tyre, change an oil filter, air filter, spark plug most other simple things although if i had to do anything else i could probably guess. on the other hand my sister hates getting dirty, she is 10 years older than me and i had to show her how to pour petrol herself if there was no attendant. she cant even change a lightbulb. lol. everyone is different. she has AA so its no biggy.

          | I do!! And when the nuts are stuck I just jump on the handle. I know how to do most of what Monikah does...I just plead ignorance now though, it's what DF is for unless I'm really stuck (or I'm stuck on the side of the road with a flatty). Helps that I help DF build and pull apart his speedway car motor every season though, and we frequently change the tyres depending on the track conditions. |

Same here. I've only ever had one flat though. I was driving through town and the tyre started banging. So I pulled over and sure enough, totally flat. I realised I was just outside a mate's place, so I texted him and said I was outside changing a tyre and he should come help. So he came outside, confessed he had no idea how, and proceeded to sit on the footpath and watch me do it. Good thing I knew how

          | I learnt during a driving course I did at high school.
Have only needed to do it once, I was halfway done and a guy stopped and helped. He said he'd hope someone would help his wife if she was in the same situation one day.

          | I can change a tyre and have been known to help the odd stranded person. I was lucky, when my dad bought my first car he told me I could only take it off the property after i could change the tyre, check the air pressure in the tyre and pump it up if its low (he let a tyre down just so I could practise), check the oil, check, clean and change the spark plugs, top up the water, fill the petrol tank and read all the gauges when I sat at the wheel, and understand when to pull over and check things before driving any further.
I hated him at the time, all I wanted to do was go for a drive, but over the years I've thanked him over and over.

          | Yip piece of cake. I'm a bit of a car nut so I can do a lot more than that. I reckon it should be part of your licence when you sit it. And you should be able to check tyre pressures, top up the oil and check it etc. |

Glad I am not the only one that used to date a boy racer, and as for the chopped springs *shudder* the things we thought were cool back then!!

I can change a tyre, fully service my car, you name it I can do it pretty much!! Think I hung around my Dad's racing for too many years, so learnt it all!

          | I know how to change a tyre, but when it come to actually doing it, I couldn't get the jack undone and had to phone my Dad to come and help me thank fully I haven't had a flat tyre since Akl is a long way from Feilding.
Oh and a flat tyre usually occurs on my way to work when I'm all suited up and don't want to get grease all over myself. That's what the AA are for.

          | I have helped a friend do it years ago, although we all had trouble trying to undo the nuts. If I really wanted to I'm sure I could do it but thats what BF is for, although when his tire blew a few years ago we had to call the AA (lucky I worked for them at the time and we both had free membership) to get his tire changed as he had three jacks in his car but none of them had handles don't ask me how or why that worked.
I have state assist through mum and dad on my car, and three brothers and all their friends who will come to my rescue if need be Gotta love being the helpless female. (although nine times out of ten i'll be the one trying to fix things like the computer, dryer, tv, shelves and trying to put things back together)

Hahahaha I've had this happen twice - once in my DH's work van (HUGE hi-top Hiace) at 4am in the middle of nowhere, and the other time in BIL's Hilux. Both times had to raise the jack with a spanner...

I learned how to change a tyre at high school in the defensive driving course, and have somehow never managed to have to do it! I've always been around someone else who decided (normally being male) that they were more qualified
. Regularly check oil and water though, but don't know how to change the oil or even where the spark plugs are. REALLY good at jumpstarting cars. |

          | I know how to change a tyre but cant because DP always steals spares out of my cars to put on the cars he is dismantling in the backyard after he sell the mags. Lucky i have AA.
I can help do most things but im not really strong enough. I can do an engine swap in a subaru tho (if dp loosens some of the harder nuts).

I can back a trailer straight just dont ask me to turn it into a drive
