Hi,
Finley has developped a really rough patch about the size of a 20c piece near his elbow. Its not red at all and doesn't appear to itch, I only noticed it as I ran my finger over it. Its almost like dry skin but its not (that explanation doesn't help I know) Its not a graze at it appears to be on the skin. Could this be eczema (loads of people in my family and dh's have it) If its not bothering him do I need to get it checked or just monitor it. -------------

If it's only that one little patch and not worrying him, I'd just keep an eye on it, and put a little un-scented lotion on it after a bath. If it gets worse or starts to worry him, get it checked out. ------------- http://www.babysfirstsite.com">

My little boy is the same age as yours - he got some eczema on his face -and then two weeks ago it went ballistic while we were at the beach! It didnt seem to overly worry him or making him itch but the poor little thing was red all over!
We went to the chemist and got some pinetarsol. we bath him twice a day in this and this is realy great! Also i cover him in acqueous cream after each bath as well....it keeps the skin nice and moist - and it's only $10 for a big tub from the chemist. We used some egocreme to clear up the severe case of eczema but since then the pinetarsol and acqueous cream have done wonders.... I definitley think it runs in families....myself and my two sisters all got eczema at around 4 months - one of them really bad. it's fab that mum kept our old plunket books to check that stuff out! |

pukeko if you are just using the normal aqueous cream and pinetartol lotion get a script from your gp next time and it wont cost you from the chemist, lemnis fatty cream is also a good one and a bit heavier than the aqueos ------------- Kerryn, Mum to Ashlyn(29/3/04), Anastasia(1/11/05) & Abigail (24/02/09) |

| if you are after something a bit lighter than they aqueous then the QV range is good. They have a an ezcema flare up bath oil that is fantastic and a lovely light lotion that is easy to massage baby with. |

Are all these products just available in any pharmacy?
Its just not red like eczema, just white and dry, almost like dry skin. Might try some softer creams first see if that helps, certainly not bothering him yet. Wondering if he has a patch on his cheek too -------------

Thanks for the tip re the script kezplanet...we were in the middle of nowhere onholiday when he had his severe eczema so was one of those momentous journeys to civilization to grab the cream and lotion!
Fiona - maybe you could take Finley into the chemist and get them to have a look and see what they recommend? my midwife recommended normal vegetable oil when my baby was first born as its all natural and an excellent moisturiser...she said to use any of the cooking oil you have in he cupboard and it worked really well just for dry skin... |

All you really need is some kind of moisturiser, such as bepanthen. It does sound like excema. If he gets it on his tummy or in creases, just watch that he isn't getting too hot. -------------  |
