Just looking for some Wellington Accomodation advice please.
We are travelling up in mid October and we need a motel/accommodation in the central Wellington area.
It doesn't have to be 5 star but clean and tidy and preferably with a kitchen/kitchenette type thing. Also if they supplied a portacot that would also be great.
I have found the Marksman Motor Inn and the Harbour City Motor Inn in my internet searches but does anyone know if they are any good?
We hope to not have to rent a car so hope to walk or bus most places so a place in walking distance of town would be good also.
Also as an aside we don't really want to have to use up baggage kgs taking carseats but do any taxi services etc have carseats? We obviously need to get to and from airport but don't really want to take carseats just for 2 trips?? DH has a work mate up there with small kids so we may be able to get him to pick us up anyway.
Thanks ( in advance) for your help

it will be hard finding something in the city that is within walking distance to stuff without paying a fortune as wgtn is really spread out. we do have pretty good public transport though. the bus goes from the airport into town so i would do that instead of taking car seats if you worry about baggage weight. i havent heard of either of the motor inns but if you cant get a portacot im sure there are heaps of us in wgtn that could lend you one closer to the time. sorry thats probably not all that much help

We are hiring an apartment on lambton quay when we go down in September (so definately in walking distance of most things), we found it on book a bach.
Im not sure what your budget is .. but its $200 a night which is pretty reasonable for two bedrooms in the central city with a kitchen etc.
If you want more details pm me (or I think I posted a link on my facebook)

Can anyone tell me about Newtown? I have found a holiday home that seems quite good but I have no idea if it would be a good place to be or not? Hard to tell from a map? Waht are other good places to be that are not right in the centre of town?
Thanks Monikah and lilfatty for your suggestions. Lilfatty have looked at that apartment, looks great have it in mind.

Carseat and stroller aren't classed as part of your kgs with Air NZ and are free. I'm travelling in May with a 5 month old and checked with a friend who works for Air NZ and I double-checked on their website to make sure. Plus infants also get 25kgs.

Hey DebsB. We are flying with Jetstar so not sure they have the same policies? I will check but pretty sure it will be included as part of our baggage. But thanks anyway, good to know for the future.
Thanks Susiec!

Actually DebsB just checked and it seems that Jetstar might be the same as Air NZ, that we can take pushchair and carseats without having to pay excess baggage. Thanks for that!

Newtown is not walking distance to town (it's probably a brisk half an hour or so walk) but buses run through there very frequently. However, it is not a very safe or 'nice' area - if you are visiting from out of town I think you'd be happier somewhere like Thorndon or Mt Victoria, suburbs which are only a 5 min walk from town and are much 'nicer' IYKWIM (personally I like Newtown, but as a Cantabrian you may find it a bit of shock!)
I really can't help you with accomodation advice I'm sorry, because our relatives always stay with us... My dad stayed at a good Manchester Unity place in Thorndon not too long ago and it was dead cheap ($70 a night) but I think you have to be a member to stay there.
