I often think you all have such great creative ideas so here is my situation if you can be bothered to read on and maybe offer some advice......

I work with a lovely group of women who are all significantly older than I. They are always very kind to me and often joke about being my other 10 mothers etc etc. I have only been here for two years and in that time I became engaged and then married and on both occassions they were very generous with gifts. Tomorrow night they have organised a baby shower. I know they love it as they always remind me it's been years since they had anyone get married, pg however I would love to do something in return to recognise their generosity.

Only idea I have is some kinda card or something that calls them a surrogate grandmother with unlimited visiting rights but I'm not really sure. Any ideas on a small gift that would be appropriate/related to a baby shower that I could give them?

TIA

Lucky you to have such awesome workmates. I bet they're as clucky as anything!

Invite them to be birth partners - nah just joking

Can't really think of anything but like your idea of the card - maybe with a picture of the ultrasound if you have one?

Not as a gift as it would be too expensive, but for my baby shower we had the prizes for the games as bottles of wine (left over from our wedding). Everyone raved about the prizes for yonks afterwards

A lovely card would be nice though.

Ellen, that made me laugh out loud about being birth partners! Yes they are very clucky and dote over me like nothing else!

I will most likely get busy writing cards for them tomorrow avo.

Thanks

you might want to rethink the "unlimited " visiting rights thing , some people may actually take you up on it , and with a new born visitors are often the last thing you want

But the idea of a card which just says quite honestly and simply how much you appreciate them and all they have done will be worth more to them im sure than any gift

I know - it makes me laugh to picture 10 clucky women in a delivery suite telling you how to breathe and getting in the way of the midwife.

I agree with Kelly about the open invitation to visit as you could end up with the same scenario as above but in your house and telling you how to suck eggs (albeit in their lovely, well meaning way).

I'm sure, like Kelly said, a card telling them how much their support and help means will be very touching.
