Next Monday it is my turn to "run" the playgroup we attend. Each week it is a different Mum that runs it which makes it quite interesting with all the different ideas that people come up with!

Each week we have all the usual toys out but we always have one table that is designated for "creative minds". Its usually the same ol same ol playdough, painting, glueing etc, which is always fun, but I am wanting to do something a little different.

Anyone have any wonderful ideas that are cheap, but exciting and different? I have a few ideas up my sleeve, but thought some of you more experienced Mums might have some bright ideas!

TIA

Last week at playgroup we made stars then got all the kids to decorate them then took photos of all the kids and stuck them onto the stars then put them on the wall with "Wednesdays little stars" written above them.

Ballon painting is cool, you put some water in a ballon then put the balloon in the paint and drop it on the paper, (this looks really cool)

String painting, get some string, dip it in the paint then along the paper.

We sometimes make a table where the kids can make "potions" just get heaps of different things they can pour then let them go for it!

Hope that helps

We glue a sheet of paper with paste and give the girls glitters to sprinkle on them. Our glitters (from Whitcoulls) all have sprinkly tops not the pouring type.

do the kids come in messy clothes? What about cornflour goop???? it is brilliant stuff. When i was doing practicums (for ECE) the kids loved it so much. Its more messy play than creative though. I just love it way too much it is such a strange thing to play with

Cornflour goop like angel4 said is great fun, and can also be creative play - kids can 'draw' pictures on the table, you press an piece of paper into it and the pattern transfers onto the paper. Let it dry and there's your art!

Or what about stamping - potato stamps (half a raw potato) dipped in paint. You can also use leaves and stuff to paint and make impressions with. Combs are fun too (to drag across the paper), so is corrugated cardboard and stuff with different textures to drag/stamp with paint.

I haven't read the other ideas so hope I'm not doubling up on anything...

*Make masks - you could have an animal theme and build on that.

*Make bumble bees - use black paper for the body, paint yellow stripes and then staple of yellow paper wings

*Make a monarch butterfly - have the shape cut out of black paper then paint on the orange and brown patterns (this is good timing because they are all hatching at the moment)

*Have a pirate theme and make paper hats/paint a parrot picture/make an eye patch

Have fun

Easy!
*Cornflour
*Water
*Food colouring

Mix together - you use a fair bit of cornflour compared to water. The consistancy is running when you move your fingers through it slowly and firm when you press on it hard and fast - heaps of fun!
