my ds is 6 and a half months old and has been puking since birth. I was told "once he starts solids it would stop" it didn't. I was also told "once he starts moving it will stop" it hasn't. My son is now eating three meals a day and crawling all over the place and is still puking. It is more like vomit now (gross ) my husband can't deal with it because it makes him want to vomit (typical ae). So what i was wondering was how long did your baby puke for?

The paed told me solids can often help but it usually gets better at 8mnths but some can be even latter so cross fingers by 8mnths it stops. The paed said the more upright the bubs is the better it stays down - makes sense.

But I'm in your boat & my boys are spilling (although a hell of a lot more than a 'spill' - like yours IYKWIM) even more than before because they are on their tums which doesn't help & have orange pumpkin or carrot floods everywhere after a feed which is damn frustrating. So although I'm no help sorry I'm in the same boat.

Look forward to reading responses too.

Thanks twinboys2b its good to know im not alone and that there are others out there. just got back from the dr and we are trying gaviscon - to see if thickening his feeds helps. She said if its not helping on two weeks she will refer us to a paed. It just goes everywhere ae. I have to change his whole bed 2 or 3 times a day because its just soaked and he goes to bed 2hours after eating. Our of curiosity are your boys sleeping through the night?

Yeh, my boys are sleeping throughout the night. I put layers of cloth white 'nappies' down on the bed so much easier to clean than cleaning the whole bed. I was on Omeprazole for Jacob but it's now settled that he doesn't get upset by his spilling anymore & wasn't helping the amount he spilt so have stopped that. I could go to thickened formula but we've lasted this long without it that I can't justify paying the extra & can't really be bothered. Ever since starting solids I've done the most washing ever - at least 2 full loads a day & sometimes 3 if their bedding gets too messy.

henry is breastfed so i guess i can't really compare it then can i. Henry wakes 2-3 times every night for a feed. I did have the cloth nappies folded and layered where he put his head in his cot but he now crawls all around his cot and pukes everywhere but on the puke cloths (sigh). Henry was on omeprazole between 1 month and 3months old because he was crying due to burning when puking (never made him puke less) but we stopped it because it didn't seem to be burning anymore. I see other babys with no bibs their mothers carrying them without a full cloth nappy protector on their shoulder and i can't help but be a little jealous i guess. it just makes me so tired, i can't keep up with the washing and i guess it doesn't help that i get no sleep. Oh well hopefully this gaviscon will work. Sorry for the complaining - just needed to vent a bit

Both mine have been/still are venters as well.

Can't remember when Leah stopped, I think it just got less and less so I didn't really notice. Joel is just as bad on Formula as he was on Breast milk , I have had to change formula 3 times to find one he is the least spilly on.

He also vents in the bed and all over the carpet, we got the carpet cleaned last week and then got an off cut of carpet as a big rug so he can spill on that and when it get really bad we will throw it away.

I was hoping he would be through it by now but it doesn't seem to be slowing, although in saying that he hasn't spilled anything today.

I also use the full over the shoulder nappy and bibs, and the amount of times iv'e had it down the inside of my bra.

So I have changed the order in which I feed Joel for the last 2 days, and we have had hardly any spilling at all. I now give him his solids first then about 45 mins later his bottle, he still drinks a full bottle and is eating a good amount of solids as well. (we were going through a only eating 4-5 mouthful instead of a whole bowl like a couple of weeks ago stage) Anyway, you may want to try that and see if it helps you as well. I know they say not to do solids first as milk is still the most important but I fugure if he is still drinking the same amount it can't hurt. Also a friend went to mothercraft and they told her to do solids first from this age esp if baby was fussy on them/or milk when he had been taking them / or milk fine before. Does that make sense?

Thanks Lisa, I'm personally not too sure on solids first because I'm finding my boys (esp. Eli) wanting solids even before the milk is finished & starts chewing on the bottle teat. In saying that I will give it a go once to see if after solids they'll still have their milk. Ta

Thats an interesting idea lisa. Henry started gaviscon last night. Disaster - the parmacy only gave me a measure cup thing so i assumed thats what i should give it to him with - wrong wrong wrong lol. It went everywhere. So didn't hope for anything lastnight. Today i went and got a large seringe and he just had some at lunchtime, he only puked once after having his meal - which is amazing given he normally soaks a flanalette sheet i have on the floor. I am hoping it is actually helping and it's not just a coincidence but i guess we will have to wait and see.

Probably isnt a coincidence- usually improvement can be seen in just one or a few doses. We found the best thing to administer it with was a large medicine dropper that u can buy from chemist shops for like $3. Its thinner than a syringe to stick in their mouth!

I'm mum to a spiller too. DH is so disgusted with the carpet and told me he is too embarrassed to have people over cos it's such a mess (he did then go and clean it). I don't mind so much at home, but it's when we're out - I just feel really embarrassed, but there is nothing I can do. I have used Gaviscon in the past, but am reluctant to now cos it clogs him up and also it's not causing him any pain. Angel4, my paed advised us to mix the Gav with about2ml of water - so it's a really thick paste, chuck it on his tongue and then shove him on the boob or bottle. Saves syringing etc. Might try doing the solid and liquid round the other way and see if it makes a difference. I'm hanging out for when this stops.

My boy continues to spill too though I think just maybe it is getting a little better.
It is tough when you are out especially now that its not just as simple as putting him down on a blanket.

I take a rug to peoples houses but it is embarassing when he does it on other peoples carpet or couch or something

Henry does that too leah and joel - well it feels like he does anyway. not finding the syringe that bad cuz henry wants to put everything in his mouth so opens it wide lol. So he only puked twice between 12 and 5pm and he had one feed, solids then gaviscon and then another feed at 3pm with no gaviscon and no puking. I find it really embarasing when he pukes on other people. i try and warn them and they're like "its fine its fine" i don't think they expect it too be so much. I really hope this helps im so excited at the thought. I almost took his bib off him this afternoon lol
