So we have been competing with half of CHCH for a rental house for like 6 months now but keep getting the flick despite great references and offering more money.
Now for the forth time we have fallen in love with a house so I'm hoping we finally get a home we deserve! I'm so over all the disappointment. Our house now is great but the area is so dodgy, its like the ghetto of CHCH. I have things crossed for you Lisa! I hope the landlords look at the girls and just decide that they must have the house!

We don't get to view it until Monday and Jess is in New Plymouth so it will just be me  Ohhh I want it sooo bad. The lady was lovely but did admit she's had half of CHCH call up about it so our chances may be slim.

Man why has the rental market in Christchurch gone crazy?
Is it just that side of town that is in huge demand or is it all over Christchurch? Its everywhere! We've been looking for sooo long in every part of CHCH but because we are a family on one income I guess we seem like a risk to people renting even though Jess has a very safe job where he was promoted twice last year  Theres too many professional couples on 2 incomes that we have to compete with and its driving me nuts. I just want a nice home for my family.-------------

Ditto MindyW, we are greatful to our landlord for that exact reason. Our house is going to be available soon, but you don't want kids there. Damp and dusty. If your still looking in a few months time hopefully not then I promise you you can have first dibs on our house when we rent it out!

My SIL is having similar problems, she owns her place in Linwood, but wants to move so my niece is zoned for Cashmere High School. She's a solo mum and isn't easy finding somewhere.

Maybe we should buy a house in Chch if there is such a rental shortage. That is a nice house, and quite cheap too. ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

It's not so much a shortage of rentals just a shortage of NICE rentals. We're really picky but we have to be because we want to be there pretty long term. We found so many places that are perfect but are either missing a bath tub or suitable heating. So not so perfect. This place doesn't have any heating but she said they plan to put in a heatpump for winter, Yay! -------------

| if i were a landlord I would ony rent to families with young kids. i figure it used to take us over an hour to get organised and get out the door, there is no way young families would be able to skip out on the rent in a hurry. |

Haha lizzle I second that! Plus there's no chance of us throwing mild dinner partys let alone all night raging parrtys that leave a house trashed But with so many redundancies at the mo people are very scared to take on one income families. I can kind of understand that though but that still doesn't help me -------------

Im in the same boat. Looking for a nice tidy child friendly place. I seen that one on trade me.. but i havent applied. Southshore is abit far from things we need.. daycare, work and my mum lol.
