I think I just had my first ever Braxton Hicks contraction. It felt like a sharp pinching pain at the top left hand side of my belly, my bump also went rock hard and the baby stopped moving for a few seconds. It was kind of painful (mostly a sharp stretching pain) but I remembered to breathe through it, just like the books tell you to, and it passed after a few seconds. I’m all excited now that I know my body is getting ready to push this “wriggling mass” out, even though I know I still have around 8 weeks to go I can't wait

I'll say!
I thought I had missed them too Paws as someone told me it felt like period pains (which it most certainly does not!) which I have had a few times.
Just told Hubby and he can't understand why I'm excited LOL The end is in sight!

i didn't notice if i had them with my daughter although i did have lots of twinges in the last few weeks, maybe that was them? apparently we do all get them, right from early on in pregnancy but we just don't notice.
this pregnancy i have had painless tightening in my tummy for a few weeks, which my midwife says are bh.

I have been having them for a couple of weeks now. I don't like them at all - your belly goes rock hard and I get this "pressure" feeling - kinda hard to explain. I always feel like I need to stretch my pants away from my tummy while its happening but I can really do that at work or lately I have been getting them while drive so the seatbelt is going across my lap right in the wrong place!!

I’ve had a weird kind of feeling which I thought was bubs somersaulting or pushing out or something…like everything is being pushed out from inside, but my bump doesn’t tighten though and it’s only uncomfy not painful…those wouldn’t be Braxton hicks would they?

paws - i've been getting that for a few weeks now and was wondering if it was braxton hicks. never got it with jack, not that i noticed anyway, but can definately feel it happening this time...oohhh there it goes now
no pain with it, just feels like bubs rolling over or pushing out against my belly as you said

I get the pushing out feeling too. Its like the baby is pushing against my insides, but hes not moving when it happens, and my bump does tighten.

I wondered if it was BH - or just the baby pushing out, like he is stretching his legs.

I've had the "pushing out" feeling for a while, but this was definitely different. I have Antenatal tonight so I'll ask her and report back in the morning

Antenatal lady said "different for everyone, not everyone gets them, not supposed to hurt normally just a bit uncomfortable" Yeah thanks for that *rolls eyes*

So in other words some of us (ie: me) are really none the wiser?

Oh well, for now I'll just assume it's bub rolling over in my case...at least until I grill my doctor!

yeah - I dont think mine are bh either - I think he is just pushing out. I noticed that its just in one place - like his butt is sticking out, so maybe thats all it is.

I'm also none the wiser Paws as she said mine "could" have been BH contractions or powerful stretches - I give up!

I had my first two BH today (well, at least today's the first time I recognised them for what they are - I think these 2 were more obvious though) and they really were just like period cramps and a hard womb... how very 'textbook'!
