Ok bit of an exaggeration, but so far i have made Ava potato mashed up and pumpkin and broccoli mashed together. She liked the potato at first, but the next day she screwed up her face at it. Then today with the pumpkin and broccoli she screwed up her face and then gagged on it! Im sure it was small enough. I mashed it very fine and added formula. How should i be giving her broccoli at this stage?

BTW, she is 6 months 1 week old ( I need a ticker!)

How far into starting solids is she? If she's just starting, try just one flavour at at time. Pumpkin and kumara are great first foods, and puree it before getting to the mashed stage if you haven't been doing it for a while. You can add formula at first and then slowly reduce the amount until she likes the taste.

Broccoli - it could just be the texture of it? I would think probably pureeing it as much as you can and mixing it with another food like you're doing would be the best way at first. No stalks obviously, just the heads.

Also it's completely natural if she is just starting solids to refuse a few times. Just keep offering it to her until she gets it. Let her play in it, have a spare spoon to play with in her toybox so it 'normalises' the eating process and hopefully she'll come around. I doubt it's got anything to do with your food - remember homemade is the best for babies and so easy too (plus so cheap compared to the bought stuff!)

I remember I did a huge batch of stew in the slow cooker only to find that BOTH girls hated it. I was not very impressed. DH found it hilarious though.

A few days later I offered it again and they loved it.

They have a mind of their own even at that age

Tell me about it! She has been on solids for about 3 weeks now and is just starting second stage foods. I home-make some and buy some. She hates avocado! I have tried it twice and both times it got the same reaction- gagg and blah!

Caden hated my home made stuff to start with, broke my heart lol, but then randomly after a while he started eating it and now loves it and will only eat my home made dinners. he didnt start liking his veges until he was nearly 7 months old.

I would stick with one flavour at a time, like pumpkin or kumara, or pumpkin and kumara together, and puree it, like emz said.

You just need to experiment. Some babies like the sweeter foods, my 3rd baby (right when I thought I had it down pat) refused any solids that excluded meat! The other girls still are not keen on meat lol

Jimmy hated avocado too and now he's older he seems to prefer it hot (like on pizza) ? Their reactions are never what you'd expect aye? Offering the same food type a few days later often does the trick. At least Ava isn't trying to manipulate you yet ... I hate to think what is running through Jimmy's mind when he spits out the latest offering , can already see a wee glint of mischief in his eyes .

You should get a ticker so we can see cute wee Ava .

Yeah babies often do that just persevre and keep offering it too her. It takes at least 7 tries to get used to a flavour and texture. So I'd try it for a full week and if she still doesn't like it just leave it for now and come back to it a bit later on.

Does she like banana and avocado mixed together? That's quite a good combo and apparently babies love it! Ollie certainly does!

I've been lucky as Ollie will pretty much eat anything but I would go with what the others suggest - make it pretty wet still, pureed and go with one fruit or vege mixed with a bit of baby rice (if you want) at a time. It took me weeks to get Ollie to eat apple and pear but I just kept offering it every so often. At this stage it doesn't matter too much if they don't eat it and just have a little taste.
