So... I am still in debates with DH about this.

Is it

"Incy wincy spider"

Or

"Itsy Bitsy Spider"

I say Incy Wincy?

I know it as Incy Wincy but I have heard and seen in books both versions. So I guess this is a draw.

Incy, wincy, spider!!
the "w" and "s" sounds are repeated through the song (sing it, you'll hear it) eg: water spout washed spider sun wincy

What kind of spider climbed up you spout?
Mine was incy wincy.... or was it a itsy, bitsy, teeny, weeny, yellow polka dot bikini

Nah I learnt it as Incy wincy but my boys have a Mother Goose small hardback book that is titled Itsy bitsy

Im not winning the arguement, we googled it and this is what the "Number of hits" shows:

Googlestats are (web count/uk count):

itsy bitsy 77,200/6,010
eensy weensy 14,700/469
incy wincy 10,700/4,440

I googled even further and this is what I got:

The incy wincy spider British Version
Incy Wincy Spider
Climed up the water spout;
Down came the rain
And washed poor Eencey out;
Out came the sun
And dried up all the rain;
And the Incy Wincy Spider
Climbed up the spout again.

The itsy bitsy spider American Version I
went up the water spout,
Down came the rain
and washed the spider out.
Out came the sun
that dried up all the rain,
And the itsy bitsy spider
climbed up the spout again.

Eency weency spider American Version II
climbed up the water spout,
down came the rain
and washed the spider out,
out came the sun
and dried up all the rain,
now Eency-weency Spider
went up the spout again.

I always thought it was 'incy wincy spider'. Just asked DH and he said the same.

Maybe it depends on what book we read as kids or how old we were when we learned or where we came from! Just a thought!

Okay I have just gotta say that that really bugs me. Now is present tense and went is past tense... so that's just stupid!

Incy Wincy and eency weency are almost the same, so I think you are winning the argument.

everyone knows that american english is the bastardised form and not truly correct!!!!

I have always known it as incy wincy too, and my mum is an early learning teacher and THEY say incy wincy.

I say DH might have to concede this one...

Incy Wincy.

Besides, NZers get most of their language from Britain, not America. So, if it is Incy Wincy in the UK then that's what it is in NZ!

Also, not surprising that the American Version - Itsy Bitsy - has more on Google... given the WWW is predominately American sites.

Ask DH how he spells Neighbour, Colour.... and if it is Zed or Zee. And if it is Neighbour, Colour and Zed, then so it should be Incy Wincy!!!

Incy Wincy!!!!

Technically it can be either but in NewZealand it is most definitely most commonly Incy Wincy.

I asked DH as he did a whole lot or 'research' on it a few years back for a Design Project. (I think he is slightly obsessed - has named nicknamed him Norman and written a whole song about him )
