Perhaps a silly question, I'm just a little concerned that over the past week Lucas has been burping A LOT and making that sound where *stuff* is coming back up in his throat and he's getting to the point where he's going to bring it back up, he's only gone so far as bringing it up once ...but none the less I'm worried as he NEVER used to do this (apart from when he was a wee bub). He's been on Anti-biotics for a week, finished em up yesterday (for tonsillitis & ears). I don't think they've cured his tonsillitis ...infact I fear he may end up needing them out but thats a whole other story.

He's only seemed to display this refluxy thing since he's been on them, and now that he's come off he's doing it quite a lot, has anyone else found this happened with their baby/toddler too when they were on AB's for something?

We were given eurythimican (sp?)- I think the last time he had tonsillitis he was given amoxicillan and we didn't have this prob.

Thoughts please? Is it worth taking him back to the GP? (my guess is yes it is, just don't want Doc to think I'm a hypocondriac ... )

I believe gastro problems are a common side effect of erythromycin so that's probably what's happened for Lucas, only reason i know this is i react rather bady to it so have looked up some of the side affects

Suggest you discuss with your dr as he may need something to settle his tummy down again - also that way they won't hopefully prescribe it to him again.

Hope Lucas feels better soon

Did they say why he was put on erythromycin? I only ask as I am very allergic to it so have to mention it at medical appointments and they are always surprised that I was given it - apparently it is usually only given if you are unable to have penicillin, which is what amoxicillan is.

I was 16 when I had it for tonsillitis when I was at bording school in England and it caused so much pain and vomiting that they thought I needed to have my apendix out! My poor my was in NZ and was about to jump on a plane back to England

ETA - I would go back to the Doctor and get your DS checked out again and ask why it was prescribed.

Dominic was put on eurythimican for an ear ache a couple of weeks ago and had a lot of gastric problems afterwards and was constantly telling me he had a sore tummy. Our doctor explained that eurythimican can cause a very sore stomach and suggested giving him so probiotics, it did help but the tummy problems continued for about a week.
Dominic was put on it because he is allergic to penicillin.
Can I also just say that you should never worry about what the doctor thinks of you, it is always better to be safe than sorry.
