Is a high chair just a high chair? Or are there important things to consider??? About to start the wee man on solids and wondered if anyone had any advice for us?? Thanks!  -------------

The only advice I would suggest is if he cant sit up unaided yet you might want to consider one that has a recline on it.
We have an enigma .. and I like the way it has "two" trays. So you can feed and make a mess and pop the top tray off and still have a clean one underneath (so bubs can keep eating round two while you clean the tray lol) ------------- Mummy to Issy (3) and Elias (18 months) I did it .. 41 kgs gone! We bought a wooden one with an insert so that our little man could sit in it (also put a towel in it so that it was nice and tight)
The one we bought was a mocka one so that it can be used as a chair but a little higher when he is big enough to not have a high chair but not quite tall enough to sit in a normal chair. Something that is easy to clean, particularly the straps. Also, see if you can open up the chair and put baby in all without putting baby down first - that isn't really a trick! -------------  |

| I agree that you want something that's very easy to clean.I've got a bertini with all the padding etc and it's a nightmare to clean.I seem to spend so much time getting down in all the crevices etc.Next time I'd just buy a very basic one! |

I bought a flash one with all the bells and whistles (reclines, split tray, adjustable height rah rah rah) and I wish I'd kept my $$$ and bought a much cheaper Mocka Designer one coz they are easy to clean and mine is a bloody nightmare to clean! ------------- Maya Grace (28/02/03)

| I second what Emma says. I bought an Enigma, reclines, goes up and down, removable tray,. padded...I HATE IT!!!! It is big, cumbersome, and always dirty. It is a total B*TCH to clean. Then I go to restaurants and they have really simple ones that fold up and I wish I had one of those. I think Farmers does one...Jolly Jumper...about $60. |

I think one that reclines is quite important. We got a warehouse one I think it was pretty cheap.
With Jack we had a wooden one, it was beautiful but a nightmare to clean and he couldn't really use it for ages as he kept slipping, whereas reclining ones hold baby in a bit better. |

I've got a Mocka Designer one and LOVE IT!!!! Its so easy to clean that even hubby does a good job of cleaning it I did get the cushion insert to go in behind her, but a rolled up towel would do just as well.------------- http://www.bump-and-beyond.com/">

See I think the tray on mine doesn't come up far enough, there's like a 1 1/2 inch gap between the tray and lil miss so she always drops stuff in her lap. ------------- Maya Grace (28/02/03)

I bought the same one as Emma and also regret it. We're seriously thinking about selling it and buying a new one. Or nicking one from the food court at the mall - green plastic with no hidden padding, crevices or anything. ------------- Mum to two wee boys |

It's funny - we have the enigma one also, but I find it ok. Having said that, Natalie is quite a tidy eater (often there's nothing on the bib at the end of the meal!), and she tends to lean over the tray when eating finger food, so it doesn't really end up in her lap. I think the deciding factor was that we got it on sale, and used rewards points for it, so it was effectively free I did quite like that when we started solids, she wasn't really sitting that well, so I felt she was well supported with the padding etc.
the other thing i do really like is that there is a section of the tray that comes down between the legs, so you can use the chair without having to strap them in. (having seen a child almost totally slip under the tray and out of the chair in a cafe not long ago!) -------------

Jolly Jumper brand I can recommend.
Although I'm not sure about the new design - I went on TM and bought the same one we had last time 2nd hand. It folds easily, the tray comes right up to the chest and you can use one hand to pull it off. Easy to clean, don't have to lift the tray over the head etc. Easy to lift bubs and move them somewhere else. Haven't needed to use a reclining seat - if bubs is that little you can feed them in a bouncer for a month or two. Get one that has sides though - a couple of new ones I looked at didn't and it would be easy for a little bub to slide through the sides. ------------- http://lilypie.com">
