I think this topic was brought up a while back but i havent been able to find it through searching back, someone put up a site about it and it was really horrible. It showed a new born being circumsised. Whats everyones opinions on it? If anyone has had there son done what happen? how old? My hubby and i decided against it but im just curious and would'nt mind seeing that site if you remember who you were. Cheers

no way woudl I do it and I dont think you can just get it done in chch for anything other than a medical reason. I remember working with a lady who had her child done at 5 years old and told him it was so he wouldnt be dirty and could be like the other boys. Poor wee thing was in so much pain for ages.

That is so horrible! In Saudi Arabia all the boys are circumcised at 2 days old - the nurses were horrified that we didn't get Zac done. And the girls get their ears pierced.

i couldn't do that to my wee man or my lil peanut!
i havn't looked at the website and i don't think i'm going to
hubby isn't circumsized and only knows of one friend who is. i don't see it as any different so why put them through the pain....unless medically there was a reason of course.

Why mess with something born so beautiful. I think that they are born the way they are because thats how they're suppose to be!

I personally will have the gremlins circumcised if they are boys, partly because Willie is, partly because Mum chose to circumcise both my brothers and I trust her judgement, but mainly because our neighbour when i was a kid had to be circumcised at about 13 because of some medical problem and he was in absolute agony for days afterwards, whereas babies recover much quickly and th eprocedure itself is less traumatic and invasive on a baby than on an older boy/man.
But that's just my personal opinion, and I totally understand why people choose NOT to circumcise too.

We wont be doing it for Bubs - I just couldnt but some of my cousins have had it done. This was due to one of the other family members getting a really nasty infection and had to have it done as a result when he was older. Which was horrific then as an adult.
Didnt it used to be for religious reasons and hygiene or something?

I think some people do it for religous reasons but I dont think un circumsised are less hygenic. I think there can be a problem with the skin not stretching enough and it can hurt them, I know my newphew has had this problem. Personally I prefer circumsised but seeing as there is no medical reason to do it to my boy i didnt/dont see the point in putting him through it.

My little man is 9 now and never had any problems having not been done. Hubby had to show him how to, ummm, get in there and clean himself properly (some things are more difficult with boys for mums) and he takes very good care of himself. I was worried that I didn't ever get him done but more because I didn't want him to be different from everyone else and be teased. Hubby assured me that it is not the norm for guys to be done these days and he won't have any problems with being different. Now that my little man is a bit older older and dresses himself at the pool and stuff, he has never complained about being different.
I don't think hospitals will acutally perform... 'elective' circumcisions (sp) anymore on babies and will only do it now for medical reasons. Otherwise you have to go to a specialist. My mum got my brother done when he was older - maybe 12 - and she had to go to a special Catholic place or something to get it done and he didn't seem to be suffering at all.

Bailey isnt, I discussed it with my midwife and she said it is uncommon these days for it to be done.
Ill just get dh to show him how to clean himself properly.

Well...hmmmm. I am Muslim and it is a must for boys to get Circumsised (Explains Soudi Arabia).....therefore every male in my family is circumsised. I would prefer getting it done and done early....but I know my DH is against it. (Cause he is Hindu, and no one in his family is circumsised)
Will see...if I ever have a boy I will have to discuss it with DH.....

Hubby is and I know it wasn't for medical or religious reasons. Makes me wonder if his sis had to be as well if it was for "cleanliness" reasons?!?! Not that I would EVER ask.
I personally don't see the point so if we have a boy (or a girl for that matter) we won't be getting it done, unless for medical reasons.

My husband is circumcised, and we wanted to get our son(s) done as well. Unfortunately, we found out that we would have to go private, and we couldn't afford it at the time.
The optimal time for an infant circumcision is when the boy is 8 days old. For some reason, clotting factors and pain tolerance peak on that day... I've talked to an ex-pediatrician who said that he's seen 8 day olds cope with this sort of operation better and recover sooner, than those who were even only a couple of days older or younger!

Years ago I used to think I would but now if we have a boy at some point we won't. We don't need it done for reasons of faith and B can cover the cleaning aspect!

I have never thought about this before but I guess i should discuss with hubby as he is. My 13 year old Son is not and he has never had problems. When he was two I do recall going to the dr's about something down there and he told me to pull back the foreskin at bath time (I was a single mum so had noone to do it for me) I actually taught my son to do it himself. No problems since really. I don't think it was to do with cleaniness it was more to stretch the fore skin. (Gosh what a conversation huh!)
If we have a boy I wouldn't want him to be subject to that. Will discuss with Hubby tonight...
