Kaela had her hip check yesterday and the dr's weren't entirely sure about one of them so have referred her for an ultrasound. Anyone had one of these?

Oh Congratulations

Yep Spencer had one of these as they are standard for breach babies, he was about 8 weeks when we went (was told it would be six but that's the public system for you). It was totally harmless, the guy just undid one side of his nappy and then scanned, then swapped sides. He did cry at one point when the scanner had to hold him very still, he warned me that they normally cry and that they aren't being hurt they just don't like being restricted like that. He stopped crying as soon as they guy let go. Probably made it sound far worse than it actually was, really it was nothing and took maybe 10-15 mins from start to finish and only about 30 secs of him crying cos he was being held firmly.

Congrats T, you kept that quiet or I just didn't see it.

I have no idea what happens but wish you well.

Rowan had hers checked twice - first time there was no dislocation but the sockets were shallow so she had a follow up in January this year and we just got the all clear.

Unfortunately I can't tell you anything about ultrasounds as Rowan had x-rays. But they were quick and the staff were used to working with wee bubs.

It's standard proceedure with breech babies - especially girls who are more prone to it. I was told that generally docs are over cautious now days and often the end result is fine. But best to find out early because if they need a brace then it's definitely better to get one before they start walking.

jack was a breech baby and had to have an xray at 1wk old..as result, was in harness for 10wks because 1 hip was dislocated...............so charli had to have the ultrasound at 2wks old as well to check her hips, all was fine

as marissa said, they cry a little bit because of being restricted for movement, but it's all over so quickly and there's no pain for them at all.......you have to hold them in a straight position on the table while the thingee is on them, but that's all, it's over really quickly

honestly hun, don't stress, it's over so quickly you'll wonder what the fuss was about......

congrats on kaela's birth, i hope her hips are all fine and dandy
