Have a few questions...
My job contract ends about a month before bub is due....so may have to accept that I don't recieve the payments. soo...
1. How soon can you take PPL....so if I want some payments, can I start them at 30weeks, or do I need to wait until much later in the pregnancy?
2. If I can't get the payments, then we are will look at DF getting the payments (he is self emplyed). But if my job is to end, and I'm not working, can he get the payments....or would I have to be working for him to get it.
I do plan of calling the department of labour.....when I have time. So any info that you have would be great!

The earliest you can start PPL is six weeks before the due date.

you can check the DOL website for the info too but I'm pretty sure that you have to be working til at least 34 weeks (I could be wrong with this though, I just had a feeling it's 6 weeks before EDD)
not sure about DF getting the payments though, they'll be able to explain it fully to you.
If you are not entitled to PPL you can apply to IRD for the Parental Tax Credit instead, which is $1200 I think, this is paid after bubs is here tho

You can start paid parental leave up to six weeks before your due date, or earlier if mutally agreed by both parties. I remember finding some loop hole a few years ago for a pregnant contractor. I think we extended her contract until the end of her paid maternity leave period but granted her maternity leave from when the contract was due to expire until the new expiry date which meant she was entitled to paid maternity leave. You may need to talk to DOL and your employer about to see if you can do this.
