Hello ladies!
I was wondering about the etiquette for these forums. Do people want to be called by their real names when they've put their real names in their profile? I feel silly calling people by their tags but wonder if it's considered rude to check out their profile for their real name. Since I haven't chosen an anonymous tag, I get called by my name either way, but I can understand people wanting to keep their real name off the web! Also, when someone has a link to their webpage on their profile, is that an invitation for people to have a look at it? I figured if people didn't want others they'd met on this site to see their webpage they wouldn't have a link to it listed in their profile, but that said, it seems a little creepy for people you don't really know to look at your website! I looked at a website for someone whose post I was replying to, as she knows, but I would really like to know what the etiquette is for this stuff! I've got the 'what if I figure out who someone here is and they don't know' one sussed already... INTRODUCE YOURSELF when that happens!! I got to swap e-mails with a lovely friend of a friend after that. Personally, people here call me by my name because that's my tag also, and I like that (but can understand others wanting to be more anonymous, and for that reason I don't have a webpage, or much info about myself in my profile). So, people with webpage links, people with different names here than on their profile - what say ya all? ------------- Andie |

Well my name is Roksana and that is my tag name. Nothing to hide so its ok with me. Most of us here know so many details about each other that I dont see a problem. Personally I always check the profile to see what the real name is...some time I feel funny calling the tag name too.......

Generally, if someone has put their real name in their signiture, I call them that, otherwise I go with their tag. There are a couple of exceptions, but they are ladies that have been on here longer than me (which is coming up two years) so I've gotten to know them a bit.
I figure, if it's in the profile or signiture, then it's fine to view their website. If someone doesn't want it seen, they can remove the link easily enough. ------------- Becca, mum of 2 girls & 3 boys |

I think if people put their real name or webpage in their profile then its ok to call them that/have a look. Also, a lot of people introduce themselves on the intro thread so then we know their names that way too. There is also the whole baby pics thing as well. But who wants to live their life hiding under a rock? I just try not to think about lurkers etc...

| I dont mind people calling me by my name at all and only changed my tag because of lurkers. I figure they might not put two and two together with a tag and would have to actually read the posts to get my name. I also would introduce myself if I thought I new someone but havent yet. As for webpages, I dont always look at them but presume if you put a link on her then you are happy for people to have a nosey. I guess it depends on how involved you want to be or if you just pop in for advice every now and then. for me coming onto the forum saves my sanity at night especailly cos hubby works nights. |

Well my user name is truly anonymous! I'm pretty sure if they'd had an address and phone number option I probably would have put that in too!!!
Call me naive but I'm not so worried about anything on here. Maybe I've just got nothing to hide  
I make a point of trying to find out people's real names (or preferred nickname if they don't want to disclose) as I feel silly using usernames. Often check someone's profile and use it even if they haven't introduced themselves... I hope no one minds that!!! My website is on my profile so that anyone can look at it - I take any chance I can get to show off little munchkin. In saying that I haven't updated for a while. Must get onto it!!!

i'm not worried about people knowing my real name. i usually look into someone's profile to get there name if it's not there i use their username. the same goes for websites, if they are listed i'll sometimes be nosey as i assume that's the whole point of having one ------------- http://www.alternatickers.com">

Well like Nikki my actual name isn't a big secret as it's also my tag. In saying that my real name IS Antoinette but only really my family calls me that these days....I got tired of everyone shortening it to ANT which I used to hate so I started introducing myself as Toni when I was at highschool & its stuck since then.
I don't have a website so that isn't really a problem. I usually just call people by there tags unless I notice that other people have been using a name then I check the profile to make sure I've got it right I wouldn't want to call someone by the wrong name!------------- Mum to Alex (11), Blaire (10) & Erika (8) and Damien (6) Successful HWB VBA2Cs! My user name is just my initials sounded out - MLD - I think Maree was taken when I signed up. Again, anything in my profile is open to public scrutiny... I figure that there are a lot worse things to be called than emeldee or Maree - and don't mind either way. ------------- |
