Will my boobs ever calm down? My right boob sprays milk a couple of meters, which is impressive I must admit but kind of embarrassing in public and because it sprays before I even manage to latch him on it does happen in public. I have to tuck a cloth in my bra before I latch him on cos otherwise my bra gets soaked and he gets soaked. My left boob is not quite as embarrassing as that one just runs like tap rather than spraying out.lol
Also if they do ever calm down will I ever be able not to use nipple pads? At the moment both boobs let down when he is feeding so I would still need them even if I didn't get the random crazy letdowns for no reason at all. I'm not sure if my boobs are just a bit odd but I get three letdowns when I express is this normal? I get one straight away then one after 5 mins then another at 9 mins, you can set your watch by it! Now I have another question related to this one, on the rare occasions that I don't have much milk, like when he goes on a feeding frenzy and sucks me dry, I then have trouble getting him to stay on the boob for the later letdowns (they don't run like clockwork with him on the boob, they are normally much closer together when I am full) he seems a bit lazy, like he is happy to guzzle away like maniac but when there is any work involved he's not prepared to bother and just screams. When he does this he is still hungry as he is happy to go on the other boob and guzzle and I do still have milk in the one he won't feed off as I can still squeeze milk out by hand. Any ideas about that? Last question, I have what feels like a string being pulled tight type pain when he feeds, well not really pain just slight discomfort weird type feeling, anyone else have this? I should be studying but I am procrastinating with these questions instead  -------------

Can answer the first few ...
I had huge milk supply till about 6 months and was wearing breast pads to bed. At 3 months, I'd be going through 12 breastpads a night. Daniel was in hospital at 3 months and I was full time expressing and would get a number of let downs. And there was the time we had a salesman come to the door while I was BF and Daniel took his mouth off ..... (luckily I put my hand strategically in place). And my theory is that babies who are used to a big supply and fast let down can be lazy suckers, so when it's slow, they get all pissed off and can't be bothered So in summary, it does happen, it's not that unusual but it can be a PITA! ------------- Mum to two wee boys |

Your letdown and spraying boob sounds very similar to what it was like when I was feeding! I got the multi letdowns every time I fed or expressed, infact just thinking about feeding or thinking of DD would give me a let down that just kept on flowing.
My over supply issues settled down, probably at around 4 months and then I could go without breast pads and thinking of DD didn't induce a letdown anymore, only when she actually scukled did that happen in the end! I didn't get the string feeling though, but I did get what felt like little needles pricking my nipples, which I always thought was just part of the let down process. | My boobs settled down about 6months as far as the spraying across the room thing went. Im still wearing breatpads now but dont get the random let downs as much unless henry is being looked after by someone else and i miss him lol (that triggers a letdown very weird). I dont know about the expressing thing as i havent done it much. Henry would get grumpy when the milk wasnt just flowing for him too. a dummy helped with his sucking although then we had to wean him off it because he was having sleep problems. It all sounds normal and nothing to worry about just annoying. |

Yeah I get the pins and needles feeling with the letdown, is quite painful when I let down when not feeding or expressing, when it happens in public I have to stop myself from holding both boobs
Yeah is a pain but would much rather these problems than not having enough milk. -------------

Hi Cuppa - interesting questions. I know I get more than one letdown - two I think. There's the initial one, and then B settles down to the routine sucking, and then another letdown about 10 mins later and the sucking/swallowing speeds up again. Sorry can't help with the squirting issues - I think I've got the opposite problem - wee girl is so happy when I give her an EBM bottle because she gets to guzzle. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I get the multiple let downs too...and they are painful. I also still need pads and I think I needed them the whole time I was feeding Tom but got away with the tommee tippee cotton ones which arent working this time My spraying nip (also R) has calmed down. With Tom I used to call it the megaboob. This time round my left one is the weird one and the only one that can feel full. The right feels the same full or empty (unless I forgot to feed off it through the night...oops) but the left one gets a real hard lump at the top when its full.

Kyle takes forever on the bottle, I get so bored doing the ebm feed, even bought him the next teat up and he still took 25 mins last night. On the boob he is 10 mins max, I'm very lucky in that respect.
Gonna try the dream feed on the boob tonight, he hasn't taken it before but is worth another shot. -------------

Wish my boobs were like that  We do 8-10 mins feeds one boob although from the arvo we are usually doing both boobs.

All sounds quite normal and yes it will all setlle down. Probably not til the other side of the six month mark tho. I still had the tingles when I got a letdown right up til the end tho. I just got used to it and it wasn't so often so not as bad as a little baby. All up I bf for 3 years with a 4 month gap in the middle and it never got completely comfortable, for some people it does but it never did for me. I stop leaking completely when baby was one but stopped wearing breastpads when baby was around 7 months.
When you get a letdown and your not feeding him or planning to feed him press your nipples as hard as you can to stop the milk coming out. Thats what I used to do in public to stop the second boob going crazy. |

Cool, will give that a try (will try at home first, see how we go, don't want to have soggy patches out in public!!!). I only made it till 3 months with Spencer and they were still going berserk so I wasn't sure if they ever would calm down or not. -------------
