Can anyone recommend new car seats that cost less than $200 each or close to $200. Because we have to buy 2 we can't really afford more than that BUT if you really are paying for quality then we may have to look at spending more.
There are 'Super Nanny' & 'Babysafe' new carseats on TM for sale but not sure of the quality. Thanks ------------- 3yr old gorgeous ID twin boys. |

They comply with NZ safety standards and we've been really pleased with it. We went out to the showroom in Auckland to have a look, rather then ordering online. Farmers Sales always have ones under $200. I have an Evenflo which was about $160 on sale and a good friend has the "hi top" or something like that and it was about the same price.
They should be having a Easter sale too  -------------

Thanks, yeh good thought about Farmers as they usually have an easter sale - will wait for that. I may go & visit the babyonline store too ta.
Also, does anyone find a particular seat material annoying i.e. hard too clean or gets too hot int he sun etc? ------------- 3yr old gorgeous ID twin boys. |

Hi Yvette, I've been doing a fair bit of research on this recently as we need a second car seat (just have to have one in each of our cars and JJ has outgrown his capsule now). I've pretty much decided on the http://www.winkalotts.co.nz/Car_Seats/Convertable_Restraints/7168/Cosco_Scenera_Car_Seat_-_Richmond_Pattern.html - Cosco Scenera - only $180, it rear faces until 16kg which is important to me, and it doesn't require tethering while rear facing (cos I find the tether strap on our Safe n Sound a PITA!). Wish I'd discovered it before we spent the money on the other one  -------------

Ohhh thanks Rachael, that looks better quality than TM ones. I do need to do some research too but what's a tether strap & why do some have what looks to be an annoying bar thing that you have to attach to your car? I presume the one you're buying doesn't need it?

The tether strap is needed for some seats to make sure they're secure - bolts into an anchor point in your car (or sometimes to the seat in front).
The Scenera needs it when forward facing but that won't be a problem, I only hate the ones going to an anchor point while rear facing because you have to lift bubs over it to put them in. See, PITA: 
The annoying bar thing on some (like our Royale) isn't really that annoying, it just pulls out and sits against the back of the actual car seat for extra stability, to stop the seat rocking back and forth, you don't actually have to attach it

LOL I totally understand! The only thing that has me wavering on the Scenera is that the service life is only 5-7 years (compared to 10 years for Evenflo, for example). But my next preferred seat (an Evenflo one) is $379, which is a big jump from $180  -------------

I just read a review of the Scenera seat & it said the highest harnes/sholder strap position was quite low so if you had a tall boy then he may not last that long. This was just one review & american at that ! ------------- 3yr old gorgeous ID twin boys. |

Hmmm, just adding the Evenflo one is off my list, for some reason I thought it had a 10 year life span, it doesn't, it's only 6 years. It's 10 years for the Safe n Sounds or the Brio Zento (which I'd love but I really can't justify almost $600 on a car seat). -------------

| We have the cosco one. Its been great!!! Henry has been in it since birth - although someone did lend us a capsule which was very usefull too. He's very comfy in it and it doesn't have a lot of extra c**p that i think is completly over the top. We didn't want to spend heaps of money but wanted a solid one. Hope that helps |

| oh forgot to add. It does sit a bit funny if your seats are slanted backwards. Towels had to be put under the front part of the carseat so that it was at the right angle. It has a line that is meant to be parrallel to the ground which we needed the towels to ensure this happened. NOt a problem once its in the right place though because you dont have to move it |
