It seems for me at the moment there are not enough hours in a day.

Everything gets done (eventually) but i'm starting to think that there must be a faster way to do things or to organise stuff so that chores, getting baby ready to go out, and things in general get done quicker IYKWIM..

Also, I am amazed at how much of my time really is wasted.. watching ads on tv, daydreaming, waiting for the jug to boil etc.

Anyone in the same boat? Any solutions?? TIA

I find if I keep the laptop off until after I have done a written list of things then I get stuff done, otherwise I get hooked on OhBaby lol
Same with the tv, I just start staring at it.
I try to keep the baby bag packed and ready to go too.

Ok this one is a really simple one but you'd be suprised how much it helps.

When I worked in hospo as a waitress we were told never to enter or leave a room empty handed. It works really well in normal life too.

I always make sure when I'm going from one room to another I have taken anything that needs to go with me. It saves extra trips and keeps the house moderately tidy.

Uhm I fold the washing as I'm getting it in from the line - saves having a pile on the couch or bed that gets bigger and bigger. I've got a coupla baskets so one for clothes, one for towels, flannels, etc and one for nappies.
We also rinse and stack our dishes straight after we use them so its really easy to wash/load the dishwasher and keeps the bench looking tidy.
Something else I did when Jake was a baby was have 2 baby bags and have one ready to go all the time. I think I've seen someone else who does that too. Its great - keeps things simple when you havta dash out the door.
I make the beds and open all the curtains and windows as soon as I get up which helps keep the bedrooms looking tidy.
I always do a quick tidy up before going to bed too so it all looks more manageable when I get up.
I totally second Chickoin with staying off the net and keeping the telly off til you've got the major stuff done!!!! I've found that I've easily lost 3-4 hours on here
Hope some of this helps

Oh yeah another thing I do is give myself a set amount of time to do say the lounge so 30 minutes to tidy, clear, vacuum and whatever else, and I go nuts getting it done, then I get 15 minutes to myself. Then I do it again in another room. It breaks things up for me and I feel like I'm looking after myself too and not spending all day running around dealing with everything and everyone else!!

Something that helps me is when I watch tv and advertisements comes on I go do something. Whether it is to start doing dishes or use hot water and just let them sit until the next adverts or folding washing or packing some toys away.

Other thing that works great (specially during exam time that I dont really clean). When you leave a room take at least 3 things with you that needs to go to other rooms on the way to your "final destination". If you can get every one old enough to do this in your house you would be amazed at how clutter free it would be.

Thank you thank you thank you....i was just looking in dispare at my lounge and kitchen and wondering how i let things get on top of me as I look after the children first and the house secondry....Dh was just having a go regarding the clean piles of laundry on the counch that has spewed forth on to the floor while looking for clothes (I hate folding it).

I find that if i have a shower and get dressed as soon as I am up (or once baby goes to bed) i am less likely to lounge as i am up a rearing to go.

Don't turn on the computer/tv until after lunch... every day. Also I do myself a schedule of work to do, e.g. mopping on Tuesdays, change beds on Wednesdays, tidy kitchen and lounge on Thursdays, etc. If one of those days gets too busy and I don't finish my list, I don't stress cause I'll do it in the following week. But it means I don't take on too much in one day and can pat myself on the back when my daily list is complete.

When the washing is piled up waiting for folding I do it while I watch tv in the evening, putting it away when the ads are on.

Great tips everyone, thanks!

Today I have started taking things with me as I move around rooms at home. I guess that applies for errands too, try and make just one trip out and do all your jobs then rather than lots of little trips to different places.

I also have been doing a quick tidy up just before I go to bed (I usually find I end up doing chores and things after DD has gone to bed for the night).

Something I do is a full body scrub while conditioning my hair in the shower..

Also I write a list every day, and pop DD in front of a Baby Einstein dvd every morning while I have breakfast (otherwise I probably wouldn't eat lol) and get ready to go out etc.

Thought I'd bump this, and see if anyone has any great time-saving tips to add .... god knows I need them!

One I thought I'd add, though, is to wash the clothes or nappies in the evening, ready to be hung out first chance I get the next morning.

oooh I second doing the washing at night .

Also if going out the next day I get everything ready the night before. Nappy bag, snacks, water etc .

Also I sometimes do dinner when the kids sleep, then just reheat at dinnertime.

and if I make myself hot lunch I make heaps and freeze or fridge the leftovers for the next day.

If it's nice weather like this, hanging washing out before bed is great too!

I agree with not turning on the TV or PC until a set time, or for me it's after everything is done. I banned myself from OB & FB for 6 days (was actually aiming for a week!) and was surprised at how much more I got done around the house. I now access OB at work during breaks (or after work before I head home) and FB only at home after all the house work is done.

I also do my washing at night, however my lines are undercover so I actually hang the clothes out at night too.

Umm I make sure I prepare for the next day at night. I have the kids bags packed and their lunch boxes packed with what I can (cold things I leave until the morning).

I've found since I started doing this, the mornings are nowhere near as chaotic!

I work full time so one thing I do is the washing at night and lunches made the night before.

I have also put a botle of spray and wipe in the shower and when I have a shower in the morning I spray it when I finish, helps keep it clean and give it a good elbow scrub clean with jif every second weekend.

Dinner is going to be prepared at night when DH goes down to Palmy next week until we move down there.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!
