Im not sure of exactly what its called and also not sure what areas this is run in but we have it here where they will pay for half (around about!) the cost to put in heating so long as your house is older than 10 years, you own it and earn under $100,000 a year.
They are comming over tommorow to check out my house and all of our insulation (underfloor, ceiling, walls and cylinder wrap) and go from there. Anyone else done this??? For something that seems like its meant to be there to help people afford good heating, from what i have seen they only use the best so may be rather pricey!!!  hense why im wondering if anyone else has done it....

I have heard they will pay 1/3rd ------------- I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived! |

Is it through energywise?? We're applying for underfloor insulation and ceiling insulation in June when the next round of money comes up.
I know that for our 105sm house we'll only have to pay $500 for underfloor insulation so thats halved the cost for us. Does that help?? -------------

My best friend and her DH used Energywise before bubs was born.
They paid $300 and got underfloor and in-the-wall insulation and their hot water tank was wrapped. Pretty good deal! -------------

hehe thanks! i had been pretty quiet until now so hadnt changed ticker! lol We are wanting them to help pay to put a fireplace in as our home currently has no heating!!! its all fully insulated already so it would just be the heating... It is through energywise and i looked up their website to see what type of fires are covered...well i dont remember what they are called but OMG $3000 for the cheapest!!!!????

we did ours through the sustainability trust
we got all our flooring and ceiling insulation done for $1200 (that was after the $1200 discount), and we got a heatpump installed through them as well for $2400 (after an $1100 discount). my parents are in teh process of having quotes done through the different schemes and so far energywise is the most expensive (the sustainbility trust is a wellington branch, so not sure if they do anywhere else) ------------- http://lilypie.com">

We are getting all of ours done for free  (Fingers crossed)
There is a scheme going on here in Lower Hutt, if you have children under 5, asthma or respiratory illnesses and if you have a community services card they will fully insulate your home. Well the guy has been. He said that here we have the free insulation scheme but as our house is already done then no need for us but my mum is going to do it now!
I didnt really find anything out really!! i have to go into the showroom to check out prices for fires!! and also he needed proof that the ceiling had been insulated BUT when the previous owner did the house up (a few months before we bought it) he insulated the ceiling and replaced the ceilings and forgot to put a manhole in!!! so DH has to put one in somewhere!!

We just installed a hat pump and boarded up the fireplace (bought the house a month ago), but we are lucky as Bro is a fridgey and got it for cheap and installed for free.
Can I ask why you want a fire? In our last house I found a fire really hard when Jack was born as it took ages to heat the house whereas a heatpump is instant. I am sure that Energywise subsidises heat pumps ------------- Lindsey

DH and I just love fireplaces the inlaws have a heatpump and we both havnt been very impressed by it plus DH has wood on tap! lol (hes a builder and also has this strange facination with going to get firewood and chopping it up! wood is his passion! lol).
As strange as it sounds we also like the smell of a fireplace heated home

| We have a heatpump and a fire now admittedly the insualltion in our house is less than perferct (at least we think that) however i still woun't be without my fire nothing heats like a fire does the heatpump is good while the fire is warming up its also good if you have a model that you can set the fan onto it moves the heat around the room and the rest of the house. I can definately undersatnd though that its easier to flick a switch with a little one then to light a fire and constantly feed it. |

| there is nothing like curling up beside a roaring fir while haveing a glass of wine or a good book or chocolates or all the above. A heater just doesn't so it. I also believe that if you see a fire burning you instantly feel warm a heater just doesn't have that appeal |

Oh I love a fire as well, at our last house when we renovated I refused to let DH take it out. But then after jack was born I got sick of having to light the fire and it taking ages to heat so told DH to get a heat pump. Hence us boarding up the fire at the new place and getting a heat pump. Plus I am really scared about Jack getting burnt, i know you can take precautions etc but I am a worry-wart ------------- Lindsey

Id love to have both! but we can only afford one or the other so fire it is.
In our last house DH would light the fire before he went to work at 6am so it was toasty when we got up. Often the fire would still be slowly ticking away i the moring from the night before!! |
