Subject: GP’s on North Shore anyone ?

Hi folks,

With this damn cold and some prompting from my mum, I figure maybe I should start investigating signing up with a GP here on the North Shore. Except I wouldn't have the foggiest where to start, DH hasn't had one of his own well... in forever, we normally just take him to a 24 hour / open late clinic. I still have my old GP but she is over near Mission Bay and only does 3 days a week, so I need someone I can get to quicker if needed.

I would prefer a female doctor, so are there any out there you ladies could recommend ?? I'm in Beach Haven FYI

Thanks !

Hi
I have been to Dr Mary Field Oakley at Birkenhead Medical Centre a couple of times because I work in Birkenhead. She seems really nice and available, which makes a change cause I could never get into see my old doctor. I do really like her, but because we live in Avondale I was going to start looking for a family GP round there - anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks Erin,

I will check her out ! I need someone that is easy-ish to get in and see / accepting new patients I guess. Still not sure if I really need to bother going in on account of this cold as there is nothing that can really be done aside from what I'm already doing ! (Rest, fluids, vitamins, panadol...)

yeah. Unless its at the stage that might require anitbiotics (although not sure if we're allowed them anyway)
I forgot to mention that she was also recommended to me by a friend who is a nurse and asked around for good GPs over this way.

You could ask your midwife for recommendations.
I ended up asking my Plunket Nurse as I had no idea about doctors in Wellington and she gave me the name of a great doctor who specialises in children and women. Ended up having her as my Doc up at the women's unit when I had my *couterminationgh*

You could contact Monique or Angela at Sunset Rd if you don't mind the drive. I see Monique (that's who's delivering our girl) and Sarah Beth sees Angela. They rock there!

PM if you want the number.

I second Paws reco, they are awesome. $55 for a consult, but they are really good and thorough. I see Angela and she will be delivering our children (when I fall pregnant), she is awesome!

Ok, problem solved ! I have an appointment with Monique at 2:30 this afternoon, and as I mentioned in another post... a) I don't pay for health insurance for nothing and b) I may as well go and at least get a Dr's cert.

Edited to add: Oh, and my mum has a chiropractor's appointment this morning on the Shore, so she is going to come over afterwards and bring me some more Lemsip

Well just to perk you up a tad more, when I bowled up to the reception desk the lady told me I'd be seeing Angela and not Monique - oddly enough because I'd made her confirm which doctor it was I'd be seeing when I made the appointment on the phone ! Can't complain though, Angela is lovely, so will probably stick with her

mwhahahahah you have sucummed ot the powers of Angela...

No really she is so nice. I still remember her face when I had chicken pox (I was 19) she just looked like she felt so sorry for me. I have never had reason to be unhappy with her (or any other doctor/nurse there for that matter) service.

Oh and if you are asthmatic, you can see the nurse there for asthma reviews, for only $20 and she can perscribe your drugs as well!

Ok I must disagree with the nurse thing...there is one nurse there that really bites at giving results!! She mucked up mine, B's and someone else's! *sigh* she seems to be getting better though.

And there is one nurse who told me off (a proper growling!!) for giving Quinn a SINGLE JELLYBEAN after his fifteen month jabs. But most of them are nice!

You don't mean the ladies at the reception desk? One of them seemed onto it and the other one was... well, the one who buggered up which doctor I was seeing LOL Again, not that I have a problem with that though !

And Sarah, it looks like good old sinusitis, as well as fluid in my ears, so a nice hefty dose of infection that means I'll be off work until Monday - I've got some antibiotics but she said to wait on taking those, as it *might* still go away by itself, if not I start those Sunday - mmm yum yum (NOT)
