Has anyone got any recommendations for a motel/hotel in central Melbourne for Dh to stay for 5 nights? He's going on his own, so it doesn't need to be anything flash. We've never been there before so don't know the city at all!

I've stayed at http://www.victoriahotel.com.au/ - The Victoria Hotel on a shopping trip with a girlfriend - was a great location, we walked everywhere. It was really, really cheap, we stayed in an economy room which was somewhere between a hotel and a backpackers in terms of quality. The downside to those rooms were that they were on the top floor and rather noisy, if I went back I'd go for at least the standard rooms. -------------

check out http://www.wotif.com.au - Wotif and http://www.hostelworld.com - hostelworld -- both have really good cheap deals and hostelworld in particular has a reliable reviewing system so you can get a feel for if the place is any good or not.
