Has anyone got any recommendations for a motel/hotel in central Melbourne for Dh to stay for 5 nights?  He's going on his own, so it doesn't need to be anything flash.  We've never been there before so don't know the city at all!

Any suggestions will be appreciated!

I've stayed at http://www.victoriahotel.com.au/ - The Victoria Hotel on a shopping trip with a girlfriend - was a great location, we walked everywhere. It was really, really cheap, we stayed in an economy room which was somewhere between a hotel and a backpackers in terms of quality. The downside to those rooms were that they were on the top floor and rather noisy, if I went back I'd go for at least the standard rooms.

Try The Nunnery we've stayed there twice now, and its close to everything. You can use the free city circle tram to get to where you need to go.

check out http://www.wotif.com.au - Wotif and http://www.hostelworld.com - hostelworld -- both have really good cheap deals and hostelworld in particular has a reliable reviewing system so you can get a feel for if the place is any good or not.   I've found that wotif is generally as cheap as anything i can get as a travel agent...
