From Friday night last week I was getting constant bad stabbing pains in my lower right abdominal area...It was so bad sometimes that I couldn't walk upright and felt nauseous. It was very much like when I had appendicitis but definitely not as I've already had my appendix out!

After a few days of talking to the midwife and waiting for the pain to disappear, I ended up having a 3rd scan yesterday and they couldn't find the cause of the pain which is so frustrating, but at least the pain is now just a really tender feeling..

So the sonographer doesn't know, the midwife doesn't know and panadol doesn't work!! I know we're not medical experts here but has anyone else experienced anything like this or have any ideas as to what it could have been?

I don't think it was a stretching thing cause that usually feels achy..not so stabby...

I had a problem that sounds very similar to what you described, it led to me taking a week off basically on bed rest, and wasn't so much a stretchy thing as the ligaments that support the uterus getting inflamed and not wanting to hold things up the way they should be. It was stabbing at first, then would ache after, and was in the exact same spot as where you described. Panadol didn't help me either, which sucked big time, but it did eventually get better so there is some good news !

could be what i have from having your appendix out and that is adhesion pain, im having baby earlier due to the pain coz mine seems to be on both sides now and is more frequent. All i can say is panadol is great for it and lots of rest and if u find its not getting better tell your midwife coz u may need other stuff. I hope you feel better soon

Thanks ladies, those both sound like reasonable explainations (ligament & adhesion pain)...I really do hope the pain stays away in any case!!

Oh I have that too in the middle of the night....Feels like someone is tearing right down low in my side..Its yuck. And you cant move for fear of it getting worse!!!!I dont think there is anything that will help apart from lying there and BEARING it.

Does the pain go away when you lie on your elbows and knees with your bum in the air? If so then it could be gall stones cos thats about the only position you get any relief in with them but I guess they would probably have picked that up with a scan, not sure. Hope your feeling better though

I had an appointment with my usual midwife yesterday (she has been away for the last week while I was having the pains so I had been dealing with another midwife)...anyway, as soon as we started talking about the pain she came up with adhesion pain as well! She has been a midwife for many years and said that she has seen it many times before, particularly in women who have had appendectomies.. Great diagnosis Jezsika :)

It seems to have subsided at the moment so that's awesome...she suspects it could flare up again later on though..
