We have a laden tree but I seem to really only do apple crumble! Any more ideas before we go balmy? LOL

can you bottle them? stewed apples stored for pies, flans... pureed for baby food then frozen.

mix the apples with other fruit for your crumbles, plums are good...

Do you know anyone who has a surplus of tomatoes? We had a laden apple tree and we swapped some apples with neighbours who had laden tomato plants, so I could make some chutney. (Let me know if you want my chutney recipe, it's yummy scrummy.)

Alternatively you could sign up to http://ooooby.ning.com/ - ooooby (stands for 'out of our own back yards') and swap with people in your area that way

Puree it up and stir through porridge, no need for brown sugar then

Apple Snow! My fav dessert!

  • 6 apples, peeled and sliced (tart, green apples are my favourite for this dish.)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 3 eggs separated
  • 1 cup of sugar

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 170 C / 338 F
  2. Melt butter and water in a saucepan (I often use less butter)
  3. Add the apples and allow to cook slowly over a low heat until they are soft
  4. Remove apples from the heat and allow to cool a little
  5. While apples are cooking beat the egg whites until they reach soft peaks, then slowly add the sugar and beat until the peaks are glossy
  6. Add the egg yokes to the cooled apple mixture (if the apples are too hot the yokes will cook - not good!) and turn the apple/yoke mixture into an oven proof 'dessert' dish
  7. Pile the meringue on top and bake in over for 20-30 mins (start checking at 20 mins and take out when the meringue is to your liking)

Stew some up and freeze then you can make apple pie, crumble, shortcake etc.

Mum has a recipe for an apple square thing that has pecans in it and served with butterscotch/caramel cource yum.

we have the same problem our apple trees were laden this year as well.
