Okay, so this might be a totally dumb question but am keen to make a couple of casseroles which involve red wine - does the alcohol burn off in cooking or is it still best to avoid during pregnancy???

Yes you are fine to cook with wine, the heat burns the alcohol off.

I've recommended the Prenzel vincon concentrates on here before, gives the effect without worrying about the alcohol while pregnant.
