Hi, has anyone ever sent a cot across the country? What company did you use and how much did it cost? My brother has a cot to give us and we need to transport it from Wellington to Auckland. It is apparently at least 26kgs, so courier companies are out. I would appreciate your help!

I haven't done this but if you didn't need it urgently you could perhaps send it as unaccompanied luggage on a plane. Ring the airline and see if they will do this. Ihave heard of it but it was a while back and things might be a bit different now.

I think mainfreight are reasonable for shipping items to heavy for standard courier. I think it may go more on the dimensions of the package rather than the weight?

Thanks for that. I looked on the Air NZ site and it kinda looked like you actually had to be a passenger on a flight and then extra luggage goes separately.... And we had already checked Mainfreight and it was going to be $141! In the end I found courierconnect.co.nz and they quoted $50.20 so hopefully that will be okay cos it seems reasonable.

I usually use http://www.conroy.co.nz/ - Conroys as they're usually the cheapest, and are always reliable. Yes they'll quote on volume rather than weight so it might pay to break the cot down, if you can do that. But $50 is cheap, I think we paid $75 to have our cot sent from Cambridge to Napier (that wasn't with Conways, it was arranged by the furniture maker).
