dose it take to work? Emily is now on her 4th dose, (2ml 12 hourly) but is still really upset and spilly as well as still powerchucking and being really difficult to feed (150mls takes nearly 2 hours to get into her). I dont want to rush back to the dr and be the panicky first time mum but should it have started to work by now?

Losec reduces the amount of acid that the stomach makes and it can take a couple of days to really start having a noticable effect. And if she her throat has been burnt by the acid rising up it make take a couple of days to heal.

I think it can take 10-12 days till the drugs take their full effect. Can you use Gaviscon as well - this is more symptomati relief which will help out while the Losec is getting up to strength. If you find there's no big difference after 10-12 days, head back to your GP as it might be time to try another med.

Hi there
for my little man, it took a good 3 weeks to really start working well. i guess it depends on the child and the severity of their symptoms.

Hi, we have just been to see the paediatrician who has diagnosed Floyd with reflux.....he has given him losec in capsules as he said this works best. Is this the norm?

Capsules/granules last longer than suspension sarahm. Its the way its being prescribed now which is great. When Jake was on losec he had suspension and it had to be used within a certain amount of time which was a pain coz you couldn't have extra onhand if you ran out and couldn't get to the pharmacy for a refill.

The capsules are also 20% more effective than the suspension and the suspension tastes absolutely vile, so bad that it is almost impossible to get them to sollow it, it was design initially for use via a nasalgastro tube. The other thing is that the suspension has a side effect of making them vomit shortly after taking it. So there is kind of no point if firstly you can't get it in your baby and then what you manage to get them to sollow they then vomit.
Give the granules in a little pureed pear or apple, don't worry that it is solids, it is basically acting like the syrup most children medicines are put in (like pamol). The acid also helps make the granules more effective.
