Im considerning going back to work and having DP stay home with our wee man. This is due to him being in a position to work with clients outside of my work hours, as Im still at uni I would only work 32hours and still go to my lectures.

How do other mums find being back at work, do you feel like your missing out?

Do you find it too hectic working and having a baby?

Does anyone do this and find that it works with DP at home?

How do other mums find being back at work?  I went back to work and DH stayed home from when DD was 5mo.  I found it very hard leaving my baby but was pleased to be leaving her with the only person who loves her as much as I do.

We did it for financial reasons but there are other pros too like being able to have a relaxing lunch with friends, getting grownup time, being able to go shopping without your little one etc.

Do you feel like your missing out? Yes!  This was definitely something I really worried about.  I felt resentful that DH got to spend so much time with DD but the truth is I didn't really miss out on anything.  I was still there for her first words, first crawl and first steps.  Also when I'm home DD and I spend our time together and I ensure she and I go out and do things together in the weekend.

Do you find it too hectic working and having a baby? Yes it can be hectic and draining but I wouldn't say it's too hectic.  In many ways working mums are lucky because we get break times.  I have a hot drink during a break when I put my feet up and gossip with a couple of ladies from my work at least once per day on weekdays, on weekends however my hot drinks are often forgotten as I get busy with DD and the housework.  I also have the time to read a book on the way to and from work everyday.

Does anyone do this and find that it works with DP at home? TBH I don't think it would have worked for me any other way.  As I mentioned earlier I know DH is the only person in the world that loves our DD as much as I do.  I found going back to work very hard especially since DD was so little but knowing that I was giving DH this wonderful opportunity to establish a really special relationship was great.  I can't speak for all SAHDs but I know that my DH puts a lot of thought into different games to teach DD different skills often I'm quite amazed at the wonderful ideas he has and so grateful that he is home caring for DD.

It definitely worked well for us.  Good luck with your decision.
