Hiya,

As the topic suggests, I am wondering if anyone knows what it is in prenatal vitamins that can cause pimples?

I know it's the vitamins causing them because I started taking them a few months before I was pregnant and my skin started to break out a few weeks later. I stopped for a few weeks and they went away.

Now that I'm pregnant I definitely don't want to stop taking vitamins just because of some pimples, but if I knew what it was that causes them I'm thinking maybe I could find some vitamins that don't contain as much of that ingredient. Google searches suggest it might be the biotin, and i don't even know what that's for!

Alternatively, does anyone know if any vitamins are less likely to cause breakouts than others? I have used Solgar's, Elevit and another brand I can't recall that i got at Huckleberry Farms. I have found the Solgar's best, I am also a bit concerned that Elevit doesn't contain any Iodine so am wanting to change from that anyway.

I know I'm probably best to ask a naturopath these questions, but as there is a wealth of knowledge here I thought it would be a good place to start

Hi, Iodine affects thyroid function which can in turn cause break outs. I would personally see a naturopath to get a balanced vitamin and mineral program that suits your needs. Nikki Chad is really good, if you google her you will find her website she specialises in fertility and pregnancy.
All the best!

I have a feeling that it could be Folic acid!

I have been taking a really good mutli vit for years which has never given me pimples. but earlier this year I added folic acid pills (they only have folic acid and nothing else in them) and started getting ALOT of tiny pimples, i then found out i was taking the wrong dosage so i up'ed my dosage and since i have had heaps of large red pimples.
this all could be a coincidence, but it all happened at the same time and I normally dont get pimples even in the hieght of my teenage years. I only really ever get 2-3 little ones around my period but not but fat ugly red ones

Sorry this has got so long but i have a strong feeling that it might be folic acid, well in my case anyway

Hmm interestig about the folic acid jem, although I think I continued teh folic acid when I stopped taking the vitamins and my skin did clear up. probably different things have different effects on different people, maybe it dpeends on whether we already have enough of somethign in our system.

Thanks for the suggestion skp, I had a look and Nikki Chad is not far from where I live so i think I will make an appointment to go see her

Hello, I have been having same problem with breakouts and prenatals and desparate to find the right composition that works for me.

Were you able to find a brand that worked for you? Thank you in advance for your response.
