Hi all,

My hubby and I will be arriving in Auckland in a weeks time and we would like to book ourselves on some ante-natal classes.
We are pro-natural birth and would like to attend classes which are so inclined.
So far I have contacted "Parent-centre" but they seem to be quite booked out in the area we might be staying in.
Just wondering if there are any other associations which provide these classes.

Hi

I did my classes at Birthcare (they were free which was a bonus!) When I enrolled she said they had two types of class one 'normal' and one more focused on natural births. We did the 'normal' one so cant tell you what the other one covered sorry but do remember her mentioning water births.

We did the hypnobirthing course and I couldn't recommend it highly enough! Both DH and I loved it - came away feeling really positive, confident and excited about the birth (which obviously hasn't happened quite yet )

And even if we get nothing more out of it than what I have now - ie: a complete lack of fear and anxiety about the labour and birth, I figure it's worth it.

HI there we had what i believe the best antenatal class ever with the green bay midwives - they were absolutely fantastic, the midwives there are completely foccussed on natural birth. They covered everything it was awesome we went into our birth totally prepared for everything that could happen.

Hi, I'm going through Birthcare on the natural birth course which is free. Mine starts 30/06 (I can't wait!) and apparently covers all that a normal anti-natal class does but is more focussed on breathing etc, and the natural side of things so getting you to work through it all with the instructor.

We have done hypnobirthing and also going to natural birth classes at birthcare. Hypno birthing is fantastic and would highly recommend it!
We are really just going to the other classes to meet other parents to be and get any additional info that wasn't covered in hypnobirthing

I think that The Midwives aren't running them anymore (tat's where my mw is).
However we attended 2 Saturday classes up in Titirangi which I thought were really good and quite natural orientated. If you are in this area let me know and I can give you the details

Thanks all. I am quite keen to have our baby at the Birthcare birthing centre, so perhaps I will enroll in their classes. Not sure where we will be living just yet as we havent arrived in the country yet!

I have bought the hypnobirthing CDs and Im looking forward to listening to them, I have heard great things about hypnobirthing!

Welcome sassysas! You can do both, the ante natal classes at birthcare (which are the typical classes held, funded by the government) and hypnobirthing. Check out my birth story here on the new zealand http://www.positivebirths.co.nz/story.html - hypnobirthing website. Helen, the facilitator, is awesome

I'm so glad DH and I decided on the hypnobirthing route, as Layla arrived so focused and alert, and she has been the most chilled out baby. Everyone that meets her can't believe how relaxed yet alert she is. oh and she is such a smiley lil girl

I went to the homebirth assoiation classes in wellington. It was focused on natural birth and there were a few couples who were going to hosp/birthing centre. I'm not sure if they do it in Auck, but worth a try.
