Hey Ladies,

I am soo over my camera and wanting to buy a new one but am kinda daunted by the process so was hoping some of you could help me out.

I am wanting a smallish one that is easy to chuck in my handbag/nappy bag.

Another vital thing for me is the rapid fire thing so that its takes lots of pictures as it was a mission to get DS's first smile etc on the last camera as it didn't have this function

Was wanting under $500 as have to pay for it myself as DH thinks the old one is fine.

So any recommendations?

Get a Canon Ixus. I am onto my second one and they are so great. I did loads of research before buying them, and they consistently came out on top.

My model is the 860, but there are newer ones out (i bought this one about a year ago). It has a super quick shutter speed, which was important to me, and it also has the rapid fire multi shot function.

I posted on another thread in the photo section about the Consumer recommendations. I've got a Canon A2000 and I love it, it does all the work for me.

That was my thread Mel....and I still havent decided but got it down to Canon A2000IS or Canon 110IS (or something like that).

A really good site my Dad found was http://www.cameralabs.com - www.cameralabs.com   A couple of english guys review the cameras out of queenstown and they are obviously fussy buggers!

I second the Canon Ixus. Love mine. The video mode is superb quality as well. I also have DSLR Canon but find myself using the Ixus heaps. I've been a fan for years, since they did them in APS film models yonks ago.

Check out www.dpreview.com as well.

Mines a casio exilim and I love it as its purse perfect & takes great shots - although until this baby makes a debut I have to admit most photos were taken out at night

I second the Canon Ixus. We've also had two. Currently I have the pink one, which I love. It does multi-shot (a must with babies!). The only gripe I have is that the flash is a bit harsh, but that's quite common with your basic point and shoots.

I did a lot of research (including reading Mel's Consumer info) and I went to buy a Canon Ixus and ended up with a Samsung PL50. I was prepared to spend up to $300 and the guy in the shop said the Samsung was the best in that price range. I'm happy with it, it takes great pics and the buffering is really quick as well which was a big selling point for me as the buffering on my old camera (Olympus FE330) was dreadful.
