Hey ladies, hows it going?
So, my folks are buying a house for us (on a rent to own situation - yay) in Hamilton. And we think we have found the perfect place for us but we haven't heard good things about the schools in our area.
How have you ladies found the ballot system for those of you who have sent your children to schools outside your zone.
We were thinking when the time came, we would get Phoenix listed at 5-6 of the better schools and hope he gets picked for at least one of them.
Has anyone had much success with this? Discuss :) Thanks.

Maya isn't at an in-zone school, I'm not overly impressed with any of ours either. But coz we're Catholic we have a bit more freedom. She isn't at the local Catholic school either, we put her name down for a few and luckily she got accepted to our first preference and we've been really happy with it.
We weren't at the mercy of the ballot system tho, I think her school does it based on date of application so it's a good thing we we enrolled her at 18 mths.

What area are you moving to? There may be something close by that you have only heard one side about the school

Rotokauri is a great school. Do you know if you are in zone for there? Aberdeen is also excellent and not too far from there, but not sure if you'd be in zone there... Some kids travel from Nawton area to go to Te Rapa school.
Ballots work on a priority system. Obviously in-zone is automatic then for example it might be siblings of children already at the school, then children of teachers/employees at the school etc. The best thing to do is go and visit the schools you're thinking of and ask them how their ballot system works then ask them about your chances of getting in if you're putting his name down this early. Best of luck with your decision.
P.S I know about some of the schools cause I'm a primary teacher in Hamilton

Thanks Brenna for that. We got our place in Nawton North btw :)
Yeah, we miss out on both Aberdeen and Rotokauri. But I figure I will put him down at like 5 schools and hope for the best.
I wonder if you can get in early? I guess it is all dependant on the school.
