I found this http://www.trademe.co.nz/Baby-gear/Nappies-changing/Cloth-nappies/Overnaps/auction-217934648.htm - Merino Cover on trademe and was wondering if anybody else has used merino nappies?
I was thinking of making a fitted merino nap with a triplelayer foldout microfibre pad for Jake to trial overnight with his bummis wraps. Whadaya think?

I use merino covers ( http://designerbums.wordpress.com/wool-covers/ - DesignerBums ones ) with JJ's night nappies and they're great. I've come across those ones on TradeMe and they confuse the hell outta me, the auction title says they're a cover but then it says they've got a hemp booster hiding in there as well which is odd. But I think they'd do a good job over a fitted nappy.
I like your idea though - do you mean like an All In Two? If you lanolise the merino you wouldn't need the bummi over top.
Keep us posted! (And would love to hear if anyone's tried those ones on TradeMe and what on earth they actually are!)

Awesome thanks weegee!! I couldn't find any merino naps other than the trademe one when I googled for some reason.
Yeah the TM one is weird, I couldn't quite work out what it was since she didn't mention lanolising it or using a waterproof layer which of course a nappy would need.
I guess I do mean an all in 2 I love using fitted and covers with Jake its the best system I've tried.
I want to do 4 layers of merino and 1 layer of microfibre then a 4 layer microfibre pad that fold out for easier drying. I'll post a pic when I'm done and then tell you what I think when I use it!

So I finally made a nappy with merino!
I decided to make a pocket nappy so I didn't waste too much material. I used the wee weka pattern and put a layer of PUL covered with a layer of merino on the outer then microfleece on the inside. I just used hook and loop on this one.
After just over 4 hours Tys bum was bone dry thanks to the microfleece wicking, plus the whole nappy was so dry I could have re-stuffed it and used it again. Hes been flooding his snazzipants fitted nappies and wicking badly through the covers so I've had to completely change his clothes every nappy change too so I'm so stoked that this worked!! I really think the merino held alot of the moisture. I'm gonna chuck another one together for tonight and see how it goes for 9-12hrs so I'll post again tomorrow
ETA oops sorry bout pics!

So the outside of the nappy was super dry at 3am and the microfleece was still wicking the pee away from him BUT he was still soaked through his pants and swaddle I think I need to work on the stuffing!!
Still it stayed dry quite awhile, we had a disturbed night so I know he was dry at 1am! Thats a solid 7hrs coz he got nappied up for bed about 6.
Any suggestions on inserts??

Yay for 7hrs! For inserts in night nappies I use 2x flats (pad folded), 1x bamboo trifold, 1x microfibre on top of those and 1x microfibre folded over up the front of the nappy as DD sleeps on her tummy. Bulky but we don't get leaks and she's in it for upto 14hrs some nights.
