Hi everyone :)
Now I know I havent been on here for AGES for a heap of reasons (working, trying to cut back on net time, slooooow OB site...) and feel a bit stink for coming back cos I need help, but we really need as much thoughts coming our way as possible. For those of you that don't know (not on FB!!) my baby Greer who is 15 months, was diagnosed with cancer almost 4 weeks ago. She has a nasty tumour right in the middle of her spinal cord (nearish to the top) so its in a really bad place. 3 weeks ago she had an operation in Wellington to take biopsies and a laminectomy (removal of the back piece of 10 vertebrae) to relieve some of the pressure and pain she was experiencing. Since the operation she has been doing really well, but she isnt standing or walking yet. We are now in Auckland and she is having an even bigger operation on Tuesday at Starship to try and remove (debulk) as much of the tumour as possible. This is obviously a very risky operation given where the tumour is, but basically its our only option so it just has to be done. I am so scared that I am going to lose my baby, but we are trying to stay as hopeful and positive as we can. Its just this waiting that is driving us insane. Anyway, we already have a huge amount of support out there (and thank you so much to all you lovely OB ladies who have been offering help, sending parcels etc  ) but we need more! So please can everyone have all their fingers and toes crossed, think positively or pray for us on Tuesday. Such a hard thing for you to go through, but something I have learnt myself, is how resilient, patient, and understanding the little ones are - they deal with things far better than their parents. ** Update from Aimee** Hi guys, Aimee asked me to update on here for everyone thinking of Greer... Her op is done now - the surgeon is happy that he got all of the tumor that he could see under the microscope. Greer is in ICU now, and they won't know how it went until they take out her breathing tube in the next day or so, but it looks good for now. For now the tube is there doing the breathing for Greer to keep her still, once it's out, they'll see if her arms, legs, and most importantly her breathing have been effected by the delicate nature of the surgery. ------------- Andie |

Hey Aimee. I just came across this thread and just wanted to say hi and let you know that you are in my prayers and thoughts. I am very pleased to hear that Greers surgery went well. My fingers are crossed for a smooth recovery and for the best possible outcome for your lil baby. Stay as strong as you can, and take comfort in the fact that there are a lot of people out here thinking about you guys. Thank you so much everyone, it doesnt seem like much, but all your thoughts and prayers really do help us through this. 
Have just come back to have a sleep and wanted to let you know she is doing really well. The surgeon thinks they got all of the tumour but needs another MRI in the next few days to check. They are weaning her off the ventilator and she is doing it all herself now, though they are leaving the breathing tube in overnight probably just to be sure. She is moving her arms and waved to her Dad tonight, and she is opening her eyes looking for us. The main concern is that the nerves to her breathing muscles haven't been weakened - her diaphragm is definitely working well which is fantastic, its just the rest of them they arent sure of yet. So she isn't out of the woods yet, but we are cautiously optimistic. She appears to have some sensation in her legs, but that is a minor compared to the breathing. Today has been a very long one, on top of the last few weeks, and we are no way near the end, but we are all feeling ok at the moment. Aimee, I've never spoken to you before but know that my thoughts are with you and your family today. Wee Greer (my favourite girls name by the way) sounds like a right little fighter and hopefully she has her breathing tube removed today.

Glad to hear that the surgery went well. Fingers crossed for a quick recovery - little kids are fighters!!
