Subject: Am I ovulating?

Hi, I'm new to TTC and I've been doing so much research that I'm confused.
I stopped taking Diane 35 (pill) in Oct 08, after 10 years of being on it. My period came promptly after 32 days, and has been on time on a 30 to 33 days cycle each month.
I have been using ovulation test kits and have also detected ovulation on Day 16/17/18 of each month.
That means that I AM ovulating right?
We've been trying for a few months and I'm still not pregnant, so I've been wondering..
Thanks in advance for your advice!
Cheers
Bea

Hey ... welcome to OB
It can take a while for things to get back to norm after the pill... esp after ten years on it... but I would think it's a good sign you got af so quickly!
OPKs only tell you that you have had a surge of LH - so your body is trying to Ov. It doesn't mean you have... You can have the LH surge and not ovulate. If you are temping you can confirm Ov... but unfortunately OPKs won't do this...
Also even when Oving and well timed BD there is still only a 25% change of conception each cycle ... and this decreases with age and other factors so can take a few tries... best of luck!!!

So how would I know if was ovulating? I have to see a Dr on this? I don't want to be wasting time trying if I wasn't ovulating to begin with.
Thanks!

Hey Bea, welcome to OhBaby! You will love this forum, lots of great advice to be had.
To add to the info Freckle gave you; the best ways to know whether you have ovulated is either to chart your temperatures with a BBT (Basal Body Thermometer) thermometer. There is a thread called Charting in the Trying To Conceive section of the forums and there are some lovely ladies in there with lots of charting tips to share.
Or alternatively you can get a blood test from your GP. You usually get this blood test done seven days after ovulation, in a normal 28 day cycle its called Day 21 bloods. For me I always had longer cycles so if you tested with OPK's and got a positive then ovulation would probably be the next day, so I would go and get a blood test seven days after that. I think this tests your levels of progesterone which should have risen if you have ovulated.
Hope that helps somewhat. Please correct me anyone if I have got the Day 21 bloods info wrong.

If you are temping you will know after you have Oved... there is a thread on the TTC on how to chart... A temp increase of at least 0.2 sustained for 3 days confirms you have Oved but I suggest reading that thread for more info on how to chart...
If you've been having regular cycles, and detecting pos ov using OPKs it may just be that it hasn't happened yet... I wouldn't jump to the conclusion you aren't Ov as I said before the chances are only 25% in ideal circumstances so that's why dr normally recommend trying for 6-12 months before seeking help. However, it can't hurt to get a check-up to put ya mind at ease... there are blood tests that can be done to confirm Ov if your dr sees fit...

Thanks so much for everyone's advice!
I can't do temping because I sleep irregular hours. I never go to sleep or wake up at the same hours every day, so when I tried to chart, it got really confusing.
I will keep the advice on getting a blood test in mind. Perhaps if we don't have any luck in the next few months, I would see a Dr to do that.
My OPK tests show VERY dark lines when I am supposedly ovulating. Usually by Day 16 or 17. I order the tests from http://www.early-pregnancy-tests.com/ in bulk so I would continue testing even after I have detected the dark positive lines.
The 2nd line usually starts to appear by Day 14, but would be very faint. It would get darker day by day and by the time it's so dark that it's darker than the test line, I would assume we are ready to go. We would BD once a day for the next 3 days.
I have to trust that if I ovulated.. even if O was 2 days after the surge, the sperm would survive to meet with the egg! So the biggest question for me is therefore, is there an egg? Hahaha..
Thanks again for listening! I spent my entire adulthood worrying that I WOULD get pregnant. I can't believe it's the reverse now. Hahaha...
Good luck everyone! May we all get our BFPs soon!
Cheers

I would start bding BEFORE the test is positive too if I was you.
Took us 18 months to get UTD and I was not on the pill beforehand either. Sometimes ya just gotta keep going.
Not sure what the blood tests show...is it progesterone or something?
