Hi everyone, I am brand new to this whole TTC thing and of course the wonderful OhBaby forum although I have been following some of you lovely ladies for a while. So i thought we're TTCing next cycle and its about time I introduced myself instead of just 'lurking':)

I am 25 years old and have been married for nearly 2 years.. DH and I are off on a whirlwind world tour soon and while we are away we are thinking of TTCing, so my questions are

1) is it safe to be flying (9+ hours) in case I get pregnant
2)should i be worried that this cycle was only 26 days which is the shortest I have ever had, usually its between 28 and 30 days

Thats all from me:)

Happy ttcing everyone:)

Hi and welcome. I cant answer your questions about cycles but I can say that I did the same thing....off overseas and decided to TTC. Fell pregnant STRAIGHT AWAY (as in I thought it was the first night I caught up with DH who had been over in Italy for 8 weeks prior to me going over....turns out it was a week or so later ). Anyway, had no problems flying except that the flight was full and I didnt have an aisle seat and needed to pee a lot. Just make sure you move your legs heaps, or maybe buy some of those pressure stocking things.

Hi, with the cycle thing. I have a 26 day cycle and have got preggers 4 times so having a shorter cycle doesn't mean it can't happen

I'd probably have a chat to your doctor. It depends where you are going but some countries you may be more at risk of food poisoning/other nasties and they can be pretty bad when pregnant. Also, how long are you going for? You may want to leave it late enough that you are back home by about 6 weeks pg in case you get bad morning sickness.
If you are pg, you are at way higher risk of blot clots, so maybe see your gp about whether you should be taking aspirin or something before and during your flights?
One other thing to consider is travel insurance. Most don't cover pregnancy, I think, but some cover complications of pregnancy and just not routine pregnancy stuff. So think about what might happen if you had a miscarriage or something (hopefully you don't of course!) but it may be worth checking with your travel insurance if you'd be covered to see a doctor.
Sorry for the long post! I'd thought about this last year when I was going overseas for a few months, but I ended up going without DH so it wasn't an option!
Whatever you decide, best of luck with TTC

Hi tryingfor1st

I fell pregnant while overseas not long ago and flew back no problems (approx 24 hours flying with no stop overs).

I actually asked my doctor about this last week as I had previously mc'd and thought it was because of the flying to get to my destination, she said it was more than likely nothing at all to do with the flights.

All the best!

Cool bananas! thank you all for the advice and well wishes:)
im only due to actually ovulate like two days before we fly home so will at the most be not very pregnant by the time im flying so hopefully morning sickness or clots wont be an issue.
thanks mrsemma, the long flights had me most worried so that makes me feel better:)
kebakat: with a 26 day cycle, ovulation should occur on day 13 right? cos with my usual cycle i ovulate like clockwork right in the middle i.e. if its 28 days im feeling mittelsmarz (sic) on day 14 and if its 30 days on day 15

Welcome to OB! Fingers crossed your TTC journey is short lived. As for flying, Dh and I just got back from Europe and we did a total of 22 hours flying time with 2 stop overs. So we did about 7 - 8 hours flying at a time. All was ok with me, except for really swollen legs on the way back and fatigue.

Check with your Dr first but you should be ok to fly up until about 34 weeks with a single uncomplicated pregnancy with most airlines. Just double check with the airlines your flying with though just incase.

Alll the best
