I'm looking into joining our local toy library but am just wondering about the cost to join up. This one is $150 if you don't want to help out or $80 if you do. This seems like a lot to me . I am guessing you still have to pay for each toy you hire on top of the joining fee?

How much do others pay? Is this "normal"?

Are you sure its not $15 if you help out?

Ours is $60 if not helping out or $20 plus 4 sessions you help on. The the toys range from .50c to $5 for 2 weeks hireage.

When Leah was younger we used it all the time and did the $20 option but know I have 2 its a bit of a mission to get over to it every couple of weeks and having 2 while helping out is a pain!  Ours is about 20mins away and fitting in feeds and sleeps when Joel was little was a pain, maybe ok now hes a bit bigger - might have to think about rejoining, although we have enough toys to sink a ship!!

Wow that is expensive! We are at the Orewa Toy Library and it is $60 per year or $20 per term. I guess you could help out if you wanted to but I haven't.

The toys are free - included in the above cost, plus there is always coffee and cake for the parents I guess I didn't realise how good we had it

Orewa isn't that far from the Shore

I have just spoken to a lady & the fees are what I described above. At least you don't pay any extra for hiring toys *phew*.

I really can't see myself helping out to be honest , especially when DH starts going away for work again...

We too have lots of toys but Liam is growing all the time & a lot of his current toys I feel he's outgrown. So I think it will be worthwhile in the end... I just won't tell DH the cost

that's similar to the price of ours (in sunnynook). we pay $85 a term (but no extra charges) and we help out for 2 1/2 hrs on a Sat once a term. I actually quite enjoy helping out, as it means I get a couple of hrs 'free of ella' time during the weekend and when you are helping out you often get some of the best toys as you can grab them as soon as the members returned them.

we totally get our worth out of the toy library, as they have heaps of big toys (e.g. cars, rollarcoasters, rockers, slides etc) and over the entire summer holidays we took out a kitchen, rollarcoaster, car and dolls pram.

We pay $18 with 4 help sessions or $35 with no help I think. I do my sessions when Jakes at daycare and we pay for the toys we get out - 50c-$5. The amount we get out it'd be cheaper to just pay a lump sump of $80 or even $150 we live in a little town so our sub pricing reflects that. I think its great Jake loves it and it gives us a good idea of what toys we should look at getting him. He doesn't have very many brought for him coz it keeps things tidier and the stuff we do get is really good quality (and generally expensive lol) so the toy library is alot of fun without getting too cluttered and the variety keeps him happy.
