Sorry but I'm fascinated by names lol. But I always feel rude asking pregnant women if they have thought of any. I know I got sooooo sick of people asking that and many other similar questions over and over....... and over while pregnant.

So just thought I'd ask it as a general question to anyone that feels like sharing.

Have you though of a name for your impending arrival?

This baby has been named since about 4 wks.  We both 'felt' we were having a boy and decided to name him Andrew Robert.  We did play around with a few other names but none of them were right.  We did consider adding another middle name because our surname starts with S and a few people have suggested that A.R.S. spells a naughty word (those people evidently can't spell) we've decided to ignore them, how many people actually go by their full names anyway?!

Michaela, was named by the time we had our 20 wk scan, I 'felt' I was carrying and sure enough the scan confirmed it.

Just as well we were right both times because we had real trouble settling on names for the opposite sex.

I had a girls and boys name about 5+yrs before we even TTC!! Jack has that boys name - Jack Antony Ferdinand - one middle name from each side of the family.

This time I have had my boys name for quite some time, not sure when exactly but very early on in the pg - Ben Andrew Parker - again a middle name from each side. I am stuck on the girls name. I have kept the 2 middle names I came up with all those years ago - ...... Jane Lorna - but I have changed my mind about the first name. Had settled on Bella but Bro and SIL had a little girl a week ago and named her Ella so it's back to the drawing board.

DH doesn't have much to say on names unless he doesn't like them so it pretty much comes down to me!

murphys law has always played a part in naming our kids - we have only had girls names for our first 2 so of course they were boys! (Bay was Madison and Astin was Lily).

This time we only have a boys name...even though so far no middle name but if he is a he then he will be "DREW"

DH and I both like KARMA for a girl but my mum is trying as hard as she can to put us off! "Amber - Karma is a bitch remember!"

Well my girl names are either:

Franchezka Rose Lewis (Frankie for short) OR
Victoria Rose Lewis (Tori for short)
I have thought that if I can't choose between the two then I'll use both names, making it Franchezka Victoria-Rose Lewis.
Rose is the Lewis family middle name.

Boy name...well I only got one. Ryleigh Brian Lewis. Brian is my family middle name.

I had a gazillion names for Caitlyn , all boys names , and two girls names , Emily and Cherise (and Ocean for a boy , go figure ) then when the scan confirmed she had a hamburger neither of those names felt right , so I flicked through a baby name book and it landed on that
(I say landed, it was the 3rd try ) but when she was born , to me she looked exactly like a Caitlyn .

This time , ive had DH to consider as well, I like heaps of boys names, but he liked 3 that I liked , Ryan , Tyler and Benjamin .
We chose Tyler because my grandfather's name was Brian but everyone called him Brin , and I wanted that as the middle name , and Tyler went best with it .
Now Tyler has grown on me .

If we have a girl after this one , ive always loved Amelia, so Amelia she will most likely be .
boy....I don't know, I like Ryan Luka ...

In about another couple of years we want our third and final baby and I've already started thinking of names hehe. If its a boy I want to name him Rex after my Dad (although Jess HATES the name ) and if its a girl I quite like Maggie May (I know it sounds kinda hill billy lol) I also saw someone in another thread with a wee girl called Lilith which is such a gorgeous name! But Esme's middle name is Lily so it's a little too close

Sadly however I don't get much say next round as I picked both Hazel and Esmes first names I do get to pick the next middle name though.

SNAP! i had chosen that name this time - Ryan Luka but just like you said Lisa RE lily/lilith - Astins middle name is Luke so Luka wouldnt really work and so far have decided Drew rather than Ryan.

I asked DH last night if hes still keen on Karma (he often changes his mind) and he said yes definately!!! so maybe she will be Karma ......my mum is going to throw a hissy!!! lol

anyone else have a rely that was so against your name choice???? (sorry threadjack!)

Right from the start I knew Sam was a boy and I wanted to name him Lee after my dad. (My mums middle name is Lee and so is my brothers) I even told my dad that I was going to name him Lee and he was SO excited.

Then over the course of my pregnancy Sams dads family completely railroaded me and being young and stupid and not having the balls to stand up for myself I gave in and Lee became his middle name.   I do like the name Sam and it does come from a character in a Terry Pratchett book called Samuel Vimes, who around the time I was pregnant was in one of his new novels where he called his new son Sam too, so we both liked the name.

He really does suit his name so I am happy with how it turned out.

This baby has already been named (loosely), we might change our mind.

But if it's a girl her name will be Olivia Fern (Fern is DPs mums middle name)

And if it's a boy he will be Jamie Gray (Gray is DPs middle name and James is my great-grandfathers name)

I am happy with the names but who knows how I will feel later down the track.

If we have a boy he'll be named James - I had a list of about 5 boys names and Dh suggested it and I like it too - we want traditional english names for our bubs.

If we have a girl she'll be Catherine Sheryl - Catherine cause its traditional but not too popular and Sheryl after my late mum.

I have come up with additional names in case we end up have two of the same gender - for a boy I like Alexander and for a girl I'm liking Amanda - reading too much Diana Gabaldon me thinks.

lisa85 I like Maggie May but then I'm a Rod Stewart fan and its his song that springs to mind when I hear that name.

I the name Karma! Its lovely

Not that I'm expecting another baby anytime soon, but thought I'd jump in here. We had decided a name for boy & girl in our first trimester. I was so positive that we were having a boy and we had settled on the name Cosimo. DH is from Florence, Italy and Cosimo is an old name from that area and Cosimo de Medici was one of the men that basically ran Florence a few hundred years ago. We both love the name and the history behind it. My family hated it! They all repeatedly said our baby would be mocked and everyone would refer to him as Quasimoto!

Well, turns out we had a girl anyway and her name is Novella Kowhai. Novella is another Florentine name and also part of the name of the first great church in Florence called 'Santa Maria Novella' which I fell in love with. Kowhai is my best friends middle name.

Anyway, if we have a boy next he will be called Cosimo - by that time we will be living in Italy anyway and over there, there won't be any 'Notre Dame' jokes!

BaileyandAstin we had so many people tell us Esme was an awful name and that we were horrible to give our girls such old nana names but we love them and to me thats all that matters. I love old fashion names!

Anna_banna I love Cosimo! Very funky name

Lisa we love the old names that arnt too common as well and Esme was actually on our short list but our last name is Erdbeer so Esme Erdbeer sounded like too much of a mouth full of E's

Anna i love the traditional Italian names!!!! my dad is half italian (other half moari) and i just have a thing for those names

We are having a girl this time, and she will be called Ava. I've loved that name for years, and it was always a thing I mentioned to DH before we were even married that a girl would be Ava. Middle names are hard though, I want Rae (family name) but don't want 'Ava Rae' so need a middle name in between.

Basically I have most of the say as Jack is Jackson Daniel (we wanted Jack but he had to have his fathers middle name (family tradition) and wasn't going to have Jack Daniel lol) and that was chosen by DH. This time around I will shortlist things and we will either choose together or if he's not around I will choose on my own.

hehe , I knew a girl called Karma when I was at Bethany , she had her baby at 24 weeks, then took off and abandoned her in hospital ..however, I do remember she , Karma, was gorgeous, like stunning gorgeous .

Renee, I love the name Olivia, I think thats such a pretty name

haha Emz, so you didn't like the crowd favourite Ava Elizabeth?

I like names that aren't too modern , but not too old fashioned

I like the name Olivia too.. shame Dh's cousin who we know quite well is Oliver.

Kelly I like Ava Elizabeth but Elizabeth is my uncle's ex-wife's name and she's a bit of a sore point with the family so it wouldn't go down well!

Dh has a friend called Karma and she is the loveliest person you could meet. I definitely don't associate that name negatively, everytime I think about the name Karma I think of her and how 'serene' she seems to be in life. (Yes she's a bit of a 'free spirit' though).

Well thats a beautiful name Bailey&Astin!
I forgot to say, some people I know weren't too fussed on Novella as well and now everyone thinks that it suits her down to a T! And anyway, who cares what everyone else thinks!

(Oh and thanks to you and Lisa for liking the name Cosimo - it really annoyed me how people would screw up their faces when we told them the names we had)

And Lisa, I really love the name Esme, its cute and I know a granny by the same name who is absolutely gorgeous and full of personality

We have a name - Madeline Grace ..... DH chose Madeline before we conceived and i just loved it, we mainly want to call her Maddi.

We have chosen Grace because DH's father always calls his other son Sam "Grace or Gracie", if i was having a boy i would have loved to call him Sam but as that is my BIL's name we cant really lol. So in a round about way, Grace is after DH's brother.

Im just not too sure if Madeline Grace is too religious IYKWIM, Will people think it is?

We've come up with two names now....we were having massive difficulty until we came out of our anatomy scan scan and DH said what about......and that was that!!

So at the moment we have Jade Josephine (Jade cos we both like it, and Josephine because...it goes well and is MIL's middle name) and Abbie Elizabeth (although Abbie may well be changed to Amber, because no matter how much DH says he doesn't like Amber as a name, whenever he talks to them he calls them Amber and Jade, instead of Abbie and Jade!!! Elizabeth is my middle name, after my Nana).

Of course, they may pop out and look nothing like a Jade and Abbie (or Amber)!!!

Oh, and Hannah I don't think Madeline Grace is that religious!! My old beauty therapist (who is very involved in her church) called her daughter Ava Maria - that to me is more religious (Ave Maria) than Madeline Grace!! In saying that, she suits it down to the ground

I find names extremly interesting . My mother has her own buisness doing numerology and altho it has alot to do with when you born it also has alot to do with your name. every name i have looked at so far i have gotton my mum to do an indepth reading on the name and it has actually swayed me off a couple of names i really liked (because the charcterisitcs etc are not so great , or it gives the child alot of kharmic debts) . its amazing how acurate my mum is with peoples names and what personality traits they have acording to the numbers in their names .

Its funny isnt it , for the last few years i always swore if i had a wee girl she would Be Avalon rose but then when i actually found out i was pregnant i kinda went off it (partly because babys daddy hates Avalon) then i had to think of boy names too so i had settled on Logan James. When i found out i was having a girl she was Makenzie Rose up untill about a month ago when i changed to Amelia Jayne and now thats what iv settled on , she will definatly be Amelia Jayne . its just so funny because its never a name i had chosen or even thought about . just came to me one day and stuck in my head and i havent been able to get it out  since. she just feels like an Amelia Jayne , plus she will be Millie for short and i think thats cute as .

One of the funniest thing i think is that when mum did readings for both Makenzie rose, and Amelia Jayne  they have both come out with pretty much all the same numbers and all the same characterisitcs with only slight diffrences , and Amelia Jayne has exactly the same numbers as My name!!! we are going to be the same animal in the chinese horoscope (the ox) and our life path number etc are all the same which is quite ironice , i shall have a little Mini me!!! lol

We struggled so much with a boys name this time - we still don't know what we are having but have finally come up with two names that I adore so either way, I will be rapt.

There is also the name association thing we found hard - and input from other people saying "you can't name your child that because I knew of blah blah blah". FFS - its our kid.

But at any rate we have come up with the following:

Annabelle Scarlett-Rose for a girl - the Rose bit is a family tradition - DD1 has the name, I do, my Mum, my Auntie, Great Auntie (you get the drift).

Cameron Stewart for a boy. We love the name Cam but felt it was too short hence Cameron - which is actually a very good friend of DH's too. Stewart is DH's mothers maiden name and represents that side of the family (DH wanted it to be Colin after his grandfather but I HATE it so we agreed on Stewart as his grandfathers surname).

I am so happy with both of these. I like names that are not too out there personally but appreciate that some choose to give their babies what I consider strange names (I am thinking of Mystique from DD's daycare). I just find that weird.

You don't need a middle name, skp! I don't have one and actually quite like the novelty of not having one, def not the norm so you get lots of comments by not having one.

I was determined that my children were not having middle names either but in the end DH's family have a name that is traditional for them so used that and now don't think its fair for one child to have a middle name without the other so now need to come up with another one.

We are (at this stage at least) calling our daughter Kaia Sally Elizabeth Powell. Sally is my Mum and she has been referring to the baby as "S.J" (Sally Junior) since we first found out I was pregnant so I have given in to her and will have Sally in there I really didnt want it as a first name though, not really my (or my husband's) sort of taste. Elizabeth is my Nana and I really wanted to include her name as well. I know having both middle names makes it a little bit long but since both the first and last names are single syllable I dont think it sounds too bad

I think we'd settled on Addison Jean for a girl (Jean being my nana's middle name) or Luciana Paige.

Anyhow we're having a boy and his middle names are sorted - Michael Ross. Michael was my dad's name and Ross is DH's grandmother's maiden name which has been handed down through the boys.... I think we're tossing up between Alex and Liam for a first name although it seems to be leaning towards Alex at the moment as it's a family name on both sides of DH's family and I've always liked it.

We've only been able to agree on Grear for a girls name lol I like names that are abit different and DP thinks they're awful we're both really hoping for a girl this time round so hoping that since Grear leapt out at both of us straight away its a sign! We had a middle name that we loved but we've both forgotten it lmao clever ae?!!
Jakes name was originally Jakob Masa but I'd really really wanted my dads name as his middle name. Jakes bio dad said no and named him after HIS dad but now we're not together his parents have disowned Jake. Since we're changing his surname to DPs I'v decided to change his middle name too so now hes Jakob Angus my dad adores Jake and they have an awesome relationship and hes so stoked about the name change

Arrrgh, naming babies can be so hard!! DH won't even have any discussions about names until he knows what sex it is (I refused to find out & he got sulky ).

I'm thinking either Margaret or Edward for a middle name after my mother & grandfather. But other than that, we have no idea...

I probably have more boy's names than girls at this stage . Not that DH'll probably like any of them mind you. But I have told him if he's not here when I have the baby, I get exclusive naming rights . Pretty fair I reckon.

Oh well, we still have a while to get it sorted

well we have both names sorted already pretty much:)

and I don't have a middle name but always wanted one so Ethan has one:) (Dh hated the middle name but he got over it cause it sounds good together) ...

we have family tradition of Edward as middle name but i definitely wasn't having Ethan Edward:)

we probably won't be finding out sex (which i don't like as i loved bonding with him last time) but we are pretty definite on names already and unlikely to change..

LOL, Jake is born (and a boy LOL) and DH and I are still arguing about girls names!!!!

Jake was always going to be Jake and we eventually decided on Parker as his middle name (DH maternal grans surname who passed away when I was 8 weeks pregnant) when he was about 6 weeks old.

Girls names we couldnt decided, we had the baby name book with us at the hospital (and left it there we think cos we cant find it) when I was induced and were still arguing about girls name when I was being wheeled down to theatre!

I think he may have been Jemma if had been a girl though Maddi was also up there. I still love Ruby and DH still doesnt.

I hope we are more organised next time round.

We had no trouble with boys names, but heeeeeaps of trouble with girls names - and we're having girls. We have chosen first names, but not 100% on the middle names...!! Mind you, we would have been ok if we had one of each, it was the second name we have had trouble with.

gah we both don't each other's suggestions for boys names.  So for that fact, I am hoping this baby is a girl, as we have about 3 girls names, and I would have either of them so that's easy.  Dh has about 5 boys names he'd have in an instant, I don't like any of them.  It's stressing me out a little, yet I have 30 weeks to go so plenty of time to hopefully decide on something.

Any suggestions for boys names is welcome!

And sheena, that's not like you to not share your chosen name.

We are the same- hoping this baby is a girl, cos like last time we have no idea for boys names- only like 2 names that really dont go with our last name, and like lots of girls names and wont have any trouble choosing!

I think we definately have the boys name - cause its the only one we can think of and so probably that and its my mothers maiden name and Dh grandmothers maiden name so family like (sorry not too ready to share right now)

As for girls I have a name i love then some one oh i know someone called that and she is so dumb!! But I still want it and DH likes it too.

I had Cady for Rhyley last time if he was a girl but went off that so not recycling it. ialso loved Ruby and guess wot DH didn't LOL...

I think cause I am definately finding out what this baby is 100% (anmio) I will wait till then to totally start deciding. With my last 2 the names for them werre decided and agreed on before now...

Anouska do you think its harder the more kids you have as you use the 'I love' names first?! I don't know how people decide when they have like 10 kids. lOL

Yes Ann, it's definitely harder when you have more kids to find a name you both agree on.  When I was pg with Rico, we had a name for each sex, and the same when pg with Gia.  Although when pg with Jett we came up with a name for each sex early on actually.  But it's definltely trickier this time, trying to find another boy's name.  So that's why I'm trying not to stress about it til we actually know the sex, then we can knuckle down and work one out if it's a boy.  Mine and dh's taste is a little different, he wants a maori name it's a boy (we have maori middle names for Rico and Jett already).  I'm happy to keep that tradition going, instead of having a it for a first name.  Gah if only he'd agree to the name I want, it would be so much easier!

The way I seem to decide on names is to go though books and list all the names I quite like, certain names seem to stand out. Then see which names seem to keep coming back to me. Either hearing or seeing them in random places or coming to me in thoughts. I know I'm a bit weird. LOL

DF wants to tell others the possible choices for this bub, but I want him to keep it between us until baby is born then we can tell everyone what his name is. I think its our decision, and get a bit cross hearing other people's opinions (especially negative ones).

sheena im very curious about your choice now

Italiah what are your name choices??

well it seems that when you have trouble choosing a certain genders name - that will be the gender you have! lol

We had chosen a boys name a while back! (DREW) then DH changed his mind, we quickly replaced it though (CADE) ....

I think it was only a few weeks before birth that i put the girls name to Dh and he said that he really liked it!! and he wanted her to have my middle name!! ...well she popped out a girl so KARMA MAREE she is and i feel really happy with it everytime i say it or hear it

Or if you only have one name picked out at all thats what you will have.

We only had one name we liked... Jake. Thank goodness he was a boy!

I know, I laugh everytime I think about how Ann and I are due the same day!!  Last year I was questioning whether or not I wanted another baby, while Ann was definitely going to have #4, then we end up getting pg the same month!  The interesting bit will be.... who will pop first??  Ann, do your baby tends to come early, on time, or late??

Amber, our girls names are Eva, or Ava.  Very similar and I love them both so think we'll definitely decide on which one (if it turns out to be a girl) when she's born.  The boy's name I love, and have since I was pg with Gia, is Luca.  Dh has always said no to it though, never liked it.  He has a mate called Luke, who isn't much of a mate at all, and Dh thinks he'll think we've named our child after him.

I cant wait for name arguments for baby #2

If its a boy we're pretty set on Luca Declan (always have been). Other choices would be Lucian, Gabriel or Sebastian.

For girls we argue a LOT. I love Amelia, Sophia, Callia or Faye (with Cara/Hope as a second name).

awsome names Anoushka! we had Ava on our list but quickly took it off bcos both DH and i are A.E and then we went and named Astin so another A.E! I also liked Luka Bella for a girl for Astin but couldnt recycle it seen as Astins middle name is Luke! lol

Posted By: my4beauties

I have a cousin, Amber, who used Samuel as her first son's middle name, then when her second son came along a few years down the track, she called him Samuel cos she still loved the name so much.  Also her middle name is Lee, and she's used Lee for her 3 daughters middle names, which I think is cool.  So to me, you using Luka for a girl, when Astin has Luke as his middle name, wouldn't faze me.  I know so many people who like the name Luca, but haven't been able to use it for different reasons, which keeps the name quite unique and I love that.

I am not pregnant and will never be again. But when pregnant with Andrew we didn't know what he was but sure he was a boy. Even still I was determined to have Holly if he was a girl as Holly was my "fake" name at work. But he came out and then we had to choose a name. After over a hour (he was born at 1am), we had decided on Andrew and he is so an Andrew and suits it and I love it how he is the only Andrew around his age. His middle name is my fathers middle name (a family name too I think) John. Our Australian family told us after the great Andrew Johns!!!

Josh I knew was a born from about 11 weeks and DH had a number of boys names he wanted (and I did like them), but I wanted Josh and was determined to get it. He came out and DH tried all the names he had and he just wasn't any of them so I tried Josh and that was it. Josh has one of DH's middle names Gareth.

anouska - Dunno if I am a on time or late labour - Josh I was in labour on his due date (he came 2 days later) and Brooke was 5 days late - rhyley was a ceasar so he was a week early - How about you?

If Josh was a girl he was going to be a Larissa jean(although that could of changed quite easily) and if Brooke was a boy she was going to be Brodie Fox (fox was her dads idea from X files - Fox Mulder) and already said if Rhyley was a girl he would of been called Cady.

anoushka, sounds like Kimora lee Simons - called her daughters Ming Lee and Aioki Lee, i thought that was cute!

We had so much trouble finding first names that when it came to seconds names we were like "yeah thatl do" lol hence Karma having my middle name and she wouldv had DHs first name as a second name had she been a boy.

Ann, Rico and Gia were a week early according to the scans, and Jett came on his due date.  I knew the day we conceive Jett, which gave us his due date and the scan agreed and I went into labour at midnight on his due date!

Amber, Rico has Dh's middle names, and Gia has my middle name.  Jett has a random maori name, and my brother's name, for his middle names.

i like having a unique (as in not named after someone) first name and a second/third name after someone Bay has my late grandfather (duncan) and DHs fathers name (Wayne) and Astin has DHs mates middle name (didnt like his first name! lol) he is also the boys godfather.

It def does get harder to come up with names when you have a large family. We are pregnant with our 6th baby (and last) and just cant think of anything that we really love yet for a boy or girl. Its also harder cause all of our children have a first name then to middle names..the thinking continues..................

OK so name's are hard my DH named our first for us the meaning is as important as the name itself I named our second we like the older names as well. My third a girl well DH and I could not agree on a name at all so we rang my friend and told her she was naming our baby she chose a name we never even thought of and decided it was perfect.   For this baby my oldest told me \ what baby's name was lol course he is also very convinced its a boy so if it is we will go with his choice If its a girl we have chosen a first name and for the second we are naming her after a special friend who does a lot of baby sitting for us.
Zac Samuel (not sure how to spell the first name however yet)
Vanessa Joy ( Vanessa meaning butterfly )

hhhm well Ignatius might be out of the running... we had a scan yesterday and we suspect a girl so it may be a moot point! It's a bit of an old fashioned name but it means "fire" and seeing as baby's dad is a firey thought it might be appropriate . back to the drawing board...

Delilah-Lucy Katherine Elizabeth (Long I know, but hits all our sisters at once! and I have that many middle names so is sort of a family tradition)

Or

Jareth Michael.

We have only ever discussed one boys name but loved it straight away. Connor Joseph. Joseph is my DP's middle name and also his fathers middle name. Girl's names have been a bit harder tho. I think we have decided on either Olivia, Bethany or Sophie. The first two names being my favs but DP likes Sophie. I have always wanted to have a Maddison but DP's surname is Richardson and Maddison Richardson just doesn't sound right. Also liked Riley but again, the last name buggered up that idea! Stuck on middle name for girl. I like Olivia Grace Richardson but then initials are OGR and I thought she might get called Ogre (aka Shrek!) at school! Had wanted to have my middle name in there but don't really like it (Joanne) so thought maybe alter it a bit to Johanna (pronounced Jo-Hannah). What do you ladies think?
Also LOVED the name Chelsea and would settle on that if DP would get over his obsession with Manchester United. He didn't want his baby named after their enemies lol

Zachary Elliott Te Whiwhi K----- (Zac)
and
Abigail Grace Tahupotiki K----- (Abbie/Abby)

to go along with our big boy
Harrison John Tikihana K---- (Harry)

The middle names all have family significance, and the first names we just like - same as for Harry.
