DH and I have been trying to concieve for over a year now for our SECOND baby with no luck. Im unhappy with my weight and the way I look and wondering if we should hold off for a couple of months while I really lose some weight . I want to lose 15 kgs in total then I wonder if this wll help us concieve easier and my pregnancy will be healthier. (first pregnancy I got eclampsia, severe swelling and 30kg weight gain)  I am 32 and DH 36 so age is getting on. Would you keep trying ? and if I did get pregnant is there a special diet you can follow to stop so much weight gain? ( although that would probably go out the window anyway) Stupid question really but just wondering what others would do. We want another baby so bad!!

I had the pre eclampsia as well with my wee one and gained 30+kgs. I breast feed and no exercise and i lost it all. I was stoked. I walked about 2-5kms each day also and i had a very physical job also. I guess its all about portion control and what you eat.

Have you been to the doctor to see what your options are. A weight loss may be all it takes but it probably won't hurt hearing what your gp has to say. In the mean time it would be worth looking into things you can change in your lifestyle to try and lose weight and keep it off. I never used to do any exercise as I hated walking and stuff but then I found yoga and pilates and actually look forward to doing it. So maybe try a whole heap of things until your find something you like.

when i was preggers with Jake I weighed about 90kg. living in Japan, this was practically morbidly obese to them and the doctor told me to lose weight (while 3 months pregnant). i ignored him, but did watch what i ate as I had high blood pressure. i ended up losing 10 kg (but put in back in the third trimester) - at Jake's birth I was smaller than i was orginaly. HOWEVER, i was really really careful about my diet. cut out most sugar, salt and processed food. I kept a really good eye on my vitamin and nutritional intake. and that said, it was the most boring diet in history and personally, would rather be overweight (they were threatening me with not signing the release form to let me fly home to have jake here - otherwise would have given up day two)

I've never been overweight so this is just what I do to stay healthy and keep the pounds off. We eat 6 small meals a day with a balance of protein and carbs and I know my partner lost around 10kg in under 3 weeks. My mum lost just under 3kg in a week and neither of them were exercising. When my DP started running any extra just melted away. I do pilates a couple of times a week and I follow that eating plan and I don't get any cravings (except occasionally for banana milk ). Check out the body for life website if you want a better idea of our diet.
I'd def work on exercising and eating right from now and see if that helps with the TTC. Good luck

there is nothing wrong with trying to lose weight and trying for a baby. i dont know if you are charting etc but you could always take a more relaxed approach to ttc while you concentrate on getting healthier.

I agree with Bizzy, why not just keep trying while trying to loose weight just be more relaxed about it. Just eat a healthy diet while doing it

I'm with Bitzy too. Sign up for some kind of sensible weightloss plan (weight watchers or what ever works for you) and keep trying. As long as your'e not on some kind of silly starvation diet it won't hurt your baby in the two week wait.

I am with Babe on her approach to losing weight. By doing what she has suggested I have lost over 4 kilos and 10% body fat since January.

The biggest thing is to get your head in the right zone and then just go for it. Good luck!
