Hi guys

My baby girl Ashley is now just over 2 weeks old.

Some feeds she is very spilly after and some feeds she spills nothing. Normally spilly feeds occur during the day time but unsure why at this stage.

I have the midwife coming tomorrow for a check up so i will chat with her but any ideas on how to reduce the amount of spilliness - i try to clear her wind and sometimes am successful but other times i get nothing only for her to chuck 10 or 15 minutes later when she is down for a nap.

Thoughts?

Karen

Mack has been really spilly although getting better now. we would just put him in a rocker strait after his feed so he was sitting uprightish and hope his wind came up all by itself. we also found if we burped him after he had been upright in the rocker for 15 mins he spilt much less

Is she uncomfortable with the spilling or does it not phase her?
Babies have an immature Oesophageal sphincter   which makes it easier for the food to reflux back up the oesophagus. If she is crying a lot or waking a lot (only having 45min naps) she may have reflux and this is a condition that needs to be diagnosed and managed by a doctor.
It may be just the normal spilling that most babies have in which case try a wind remedy (like Weleda colic powder or infacol, given before a feed), keep her upright after her feeds (a front pack or bouncanette will help). And if she is spilling in her sleep make sure you sleep her on her side (use a side sleeper or safety sleep) and you can raise the end of her bassinette or cot up at the head end to make it harder for the food to rise up again.
Hope that is some help. Best of luck

Sorry no help my baby is still spilling loads and he's nine months old!
Try keeping baby upright for ten minute after a feed. It is normal for babies to spill though so if baby is gaining weight and isn't bother by the spilling then really you are best just to go with the flow. (no pun intended).

Thanks all

She isnt in the least bit bothered when she chucks up.

Had midwife here for 2 week check today and she was super impressed at the amount of weight she had put on and suggested that due to my high milk output and Ashley feeding so well she may just be taking too much in and to try winding her and then finishing her feed

Seems to have worked well so far this afternoon thank goodness!
