I've heard and read that its ok and that to have sex during pregnancy- but... are there only certain positions you can do it? So it doesnt harm or annoy the baby? See I have no idea.
I put it off after finding out I was pregnant but also- I didn't know you could still have sex during the pregnancy until my DAD (of all people) told me.
The convo started by talking about circumsising with my step mum- and here comes the old big head who apparently knows it all since he has 6 kids- and says its alright to have sex during pregnancy haha and we weren't even talking about it. I wonder sometimes- are we really related??? Haha. But thanks dad- made me all embarrassed haha.

Yes, Stevie, it is alright to have sex during pregnancy! It will not harm the baby at all, as the "plug" that keeps your baby's amiotic (sp?) fluid in will keep everything else out.
As far as positions go, go with whatever is comfortable for you and your partner! He may need to hold his weight up on his arms so that you can breathe easily though. You may find that you cannot lie on your back for long enough, or your tummy may be in the way so try other positions then... Woman on Top or Spooning work well.
You may find that sometimes that when you orgasm your tummy goes rock hard, and/or Baby sticks something out your side... part of the female orgasm is that all the stomach muscles contract and tighten up. Baby is just showing their displeasure at being squeezed! but it doesn't hurt them at all.
In the last stages of pregnancy, semen can bring on active labour by softening the cervix, but only if the cervix is already starting to soften.

yeh i ve been told it is fine also. Just all about comfort for you.
I avoided it also but tried in first few months of pregnancy but it was sooo uncomfortable for me during and afterwards. Now Its back to normal. Yay!!! Different for everyone though I guess. I do think though about poor bubs being shaken around in there. lol.

Sex in pregnancy is definitely OK, but definitely about your comfort over everything else ! Sideways isn't too bad if you can manage, from behind is good too but you might need pillows to prop you up - I do this as well as hang on to the headboard *ahem* Sorry if that was TMI Don't forget that you get a whole lot of endorphins floating around in your system once you have orgasmed, so even if bub packs a tanty at being jiggled around a bit, they will soon relax along with you

LOL Jax - people usually pay 0900 numbers to get that kind of mental picture.
But yes, some women even have increased orgasms during pregnancy due to the extra blood flow and activity around the nether-regions (not Holland, I mean your girly bits that you probably can't see without the aid of a couple of strategically placed mirrors). Then, when you near the end of your pregnancy, there is added motivation to have sex with your men-partners - sperm and ejaculate can help to bring on labour. Lucky boys for that week!

*chortle* Sorry ladies, will pull the reins a bit tighter next time
I do have to say I haven't tried woman on top though, purely because I figure it might be a bit uncomfortable for the 'girls' without support (and who wants to shag with a bra on !?)... *ahem* ANYWAY...

*bigger chortle* - sorry Paws, this is going to make it even worse for you next time you see Rols, however; you could always get support for the girls with his free hand/s - unless they were holding on somewhere else....

Would they reach up that far though? Would think that the bump would get in the way if they were to be positioned close enough...
Edited to add: VERY good point Becca That way his hands could be helping me keep balance instead, just in case
And naughty? This isn't even close *evil giggle*

yeah he can support "the girls" which is a win win situation really or if you lean back a little you can support yourself with your hands on his legs plus the tummy isnt in the way and thats all Im going to say on the subject

AH ! Another excellent point ! Must remind him to put his knees up if we try that one... so then I wouldn't have to lean back *too* far to rest on them

just to add my 2 cents. Girl on top gets harder the bigger your tummy gets.
I have to say Im not really interested at the moment but have made a resolution to be interested in the next few weeks, because after the baby has arrived I dont think it'll be happening for a while.

If you sit upright (for girl on top) and he stays lying down, your tummy doesn't get in the way the same.

Lol Jess... that reminds me of a conversation I had with my (then 14yo) little sister last year. I said to her that if she ever wanted to talk about sex and the emotions that come up before your first time that she could call me - because I had two kids so she knew I've had sex at least twice, and it's easier to think of your big sister having sex than your parents!

In the newspaper birth notices the other day someone had put something like "yes we have had sex at least twice and here is the proof, such and such was born......" I thought that was a really strange thing to put in a birth notice!

hmmm I know it is safe to have sex normally during pregnancy, but I had a littl bleeding a couple of weeks ago and my midwife said "no sex" and since then we havent had any, which is fine, but now I am starting to get a little, ummm, well I am missing it a bit. But my midwife has now gone on holiday to Scottland for a month and I cant ring her and say "is it ok now?" - hubby was a bit freakaed out by our scare so i dont htink he wants to have sex but I dooooooo! Not all teh time but jeez give a girl a little lovin at least once every few weeks come on!
ANYWAY my question is has anyone been in my position, had a litle bleedin and told no sex - is tha ban for the rest of the pregnancy *ugh please no* or is it just for a few weeks or something...dont worry I wont do anything till I get the word from my midwife when she gets back, but I was just wondering...?

Did she say it was due to your placenta position? Im not to clued up on that but someone here maybe able to explain what i mean if they get me?
|
Posted By: mrs frantic
Date Posted: 02 June 2006 at 3:28pm
Well they checked at the scan to see if teh placenta was at the bottom of the uterus (placenta previa? i think?) which can cause some bleeding apprently but no, it is anterior and apparently not lying low...at the time when they did the scan they said that baby was fine and that they couldnt see anywhere where the placenta had pulled away so they said it was all fine and no apparent reason for bleeding...so who knows...i was just happy it was all ok but I would have liked to know why it happened...?
SO short answer is no, not due to placental position...
