Hey,
Now at the mo I am very grateful DS is not crawling, it looks like hard work. But he doesn't appear interested in moving around full stop. On his tummy he lies playing for about a minute until he reaches for something and then as he lifts that arm it means he always rolls over, he always pushes with his right arm, sometimes its clear he didn't want to roll over and he can get himself back on his tummy again, but again reaches for toy and whoops back again, we've watched him roll and roll and roll all many times over. But its always the right arm that does it. Is this normal? His left arm holds things and he pushes up with both arms, but he always goes over the same way and again rolling back to front he always goes the same way. So unsure how we can learn to even comando forward if he just flips over everytime -------------

He'll suss it out, they all do at some stage or another. Some earlier like lil miss who was off at 6 mths, some later like the gremlins who were still immobile lumps at 9 1/2 mths.
I wouldn't be too worried that he always turns the same way as long as he is able to turn his head in both directions and hold his head up well. It's probably just gravity pulling him over that way. Sometimes they start by moving backwards on their tummy or back, so he will get there eventually! -------------  Maya Grace (28/02/03)

Ok, so I read these comments and thought yes thats right he'll get there in his own time.
But........today we were at our swimming class and our instructor who is not a people person anyway, was doing something with the babies and asked how well developped Finley was, I said well he sits. And she said he should be crawling and he is missing out, and I should be doing more tummy time. We do a fair bit of tummy time, but he just won't stay on his tummy, he just rolls off. Now I said this and she just shrugged it off, but now I feel bad,  -------------

Oh Fiona, I don't have a child of my own (yet) but I've just completed my certificate in Caring for children so I know a bit.
Anyone who tells you that your baby should be doing this, that or anything else by a certain age is just uneducated! EVERY baby develops at their own rate of knots. Examples: My niece was talking (in full sentences) by 8 months but didn't walk until her 1st birthday. My nephew is almost 2 and cannot talk (he makes audible sounds but no actual words) but was running by 9 months old. My best friends little girl got her first baby tooth at 4 weeks old when apparently babies shouldn't teeth until 8 months old. Any age that they put on an activity is a just a generalised guide, it's not fact and thats the thing to remember. Finley may have some other things down pat that other babies his age are nowhere near achieving yet. Just give him his tummy time, interact with him and everything, he will get it, and I bet once he's gets the gist of crawling, he'll be up and running before you know it. Also, I know of babies that never crawled. Oneday they just sat up, pulled themself up on the dog or the coffee table and off they walked. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I wouldnt worry about it at all. At least your boy is rolling i know kids at that age that are only just learning. Babies will do things in there own time when they are good and ready, there is no reason to hurry them. If you push them to do things before they are ready it might cause them problems etc. -------------
